IRWINDALE, Calif., Sept. 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Charter customers in California are finding it easier and more affordable than ever to keep in contact with family and friends south of the border.

Charter is now including unlimited calling to Mexico landlines and up to 250 minutes of calling to Mexico cell phones with the Charter Phone Unlimited plan in California when customers choose the Triple Play PaqueTV Plus package.

Triple Play PaqueTV Plus bundles Charter Phone, TV and Internet service with the popular Latino View Spanish-language programming package.

"Adding Unlimited Calling to Mexico is another way that we are increasing the value of our Phone service," said Carl Leuschner, Charter's vice president of Internet and Phone Products. "Most competitors charge incrementally for Mexico calling, with costs close to $40 per month. Charter is offering that same value at substantial savings to our California customers."

That means Mexican-Americans in California can keep up with events back home – from Tijuana to Cancun and Matamoros to Manzanillo – without the fear of a costly telephone bill at the end of the month or the difficulties associated with telephone calling cards.

"Dialing the number on the card, a 10-digit pin, and then the number you are calling – it's very inconvenient," said Anthony Leyva, a senior customer sales and service center representative for Charter in Long Beach.

Like many Southern California families, the Leyvas used to rely on calling cards for making calls to their relatives in Mexico. But that changed when they signed up for the Charter Phone Unlimited plan.

"If you add the Latino View package, you get this on top of it," Leyva explained. "You automatically get those calls included in your plan. It helps a lot."

Now, Leyva's family members can control costs while they remain connected to aunts, uncles and cousins who reside in Guadalajara.

"For the Hispanic community, it's very important to keep in contact with family," Leyva said. "My mom is the one who makes most of the calls. She has five sisters and two brothers there, and she calls every one of them once or twice a week."

Charter is also bringing improved video services to Southern California. With new all-digital networks in Long Beach, Glendale and Burbank, Charter customers now have access to more than 180 high definition television channels including FOX Deportes, Galavisión and HBO Latino.

And, with digital set-top boxes, Charter customers are gaining Video On Demand (VOD) access for every television in their homes. More than 10,000 VOD options, including more than 1,800 HD titles and many Spanish-language selections, are available with just the push of a button.
