Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN), AT&T Inc. (T) and DHL Worldwide Express Inc. are among nearly a dozen companies that said Wednesday they have joined a new alliance, led by environmental nonprofit Ceres, to help corporations move to electric vehicles.

Ceres, which maintains a network of more than 170 institutional investors managing over $29 trillion, said the Corporate Electric Vehicle Alliance "is expected to boost the electric-vehicle market by signaling the breadth and scale of corporate demand" for "the production of a more diverse array of electric-vehicle models."

"It will also provide a platform to coordinate support for policies that enable fleet electrification," Ceres added.

Other companies in the group are Clif Bar Inc., Consumers Energy Co., IKEA North America, LeasePlan Corp., Neutron Holdings Inc.'s Lime, Genentech Inc. and Siemens AG (SIE.XE).

In September, Amazon pledged to purchase 100,000 Rivian electric vans and deliver half of its shipments with net zero carbon-dioxide emissions by 2030.

"We're looking forward to working with fellow Corporate Electric Vehicle Alliance members to share best practices to remove carbon emissions from our transportation business," said Kara Hurst, head of world-wide sustainability at Amazon.
