Live Voting on the NEM Platform

Bitcoin Global News (BGN)

August 08, 2018 -- ADVFN Crypto NewsWire -- There just might be Blockchain voting in the near future in Ukraine. The catch is that it seems that this version of the future depends on one man, at this point.

According to a report on the subject by Coin Desk, Oleksandr Stelmakh, who is a member of Ukraine’s Central Election Commission, has been pushing a pilot of the NEM Blockchain, in connection with live elections.

Stelmakh’s main argument for the Blockchain’s usage in connection with whatever legacy systems are now in place is that the nature of the technology prevents any changes being made after information has already been added to it.

Apparently, as of now, the pilot has begun and is ongoing in the country, but Stelmakh and those involved have already seemingly concluded that the cost of putting one Blockchain terminal in each election center in the country is worth it.

More specifically, Stelmakh was quoted as saying that this cost should equal about $1,227, not including any sort of maintenance related to the terminals involved.

In the end, at the same time as Stelmakh seemed to be strongly in support of the Blockchain for voting based on the cost of installation, he apparently also made sure to point out that all related tests of the technology are still in their early stages.

Even so, if Stelmakh has enough clout with his colleagues as well as with his superiors, we just might see one of the first real active uses of the Blockchain in elections, as compared to hoaxes like what recently came out of Sierra Leone.

If the cards do fall Stelmakh’s way, then people will actively, en-masse begin to see just how useful the Blockchain can be to combat something like corruption in elections, through the simple fact that all data entered on it is immutable.
