P-Com Launches New Spread Spectrum Technology for Corporations
and Carriers
New AirPro Gold Product Lowers Costs, Increases Network Flexibility
CAMPBELL, Calif., April 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- P-Com, Inc. (BULLETIN
BOARD: PCOM) , a worldwide provider of wireless telecom products and services,
today announced AirPro Gold 2T1, an innovative new spread spectrum technology
that lowers costs and increases flexibility for the carrier and enterprise
markets.
AirPro Gold (APG) 2T1 offers two key modes of operation: Simultaneous T1 and
Ethernet traffic in a single, integrated radio, as well as Point-to-Multipoint
T1. By offering two modes in a single unit, APG 2T1 slashes equipment,
maintenance and leased line costs while offering the opportunity to manage both
voice and data traffic through a slim-line, rack-mounted unit without the need
for expensive routers.
Because of its dual mode capabilities, APG 2T1 enables private corporate
networks and cellular and wireline phone providers to reduce the number of
radios necessary to facilitate voice or data traffic. APG 2T1 can manage one or
two T1 lines with simultaneous high-speed Ethernet traffic, while most products
today can manage only T1 lines or an Ethernet connection, but not a combination
of the two simultaneously.
APG 2T1 can also facilitate Voice over IP (VoIP), offering Quality of Service
(QoS) similar to P-Com's AirPro Gold.Net wireless router radio to ensure
prioritization of VoIP traffic. Additionally, AGP 2T1 provides a physical
topographical view of the network, with the capability to see alarms in real
time for every unit radio on the network. By pointing and clicking on screen
icons, network operators can see the configuration of each P-Com radio.
"AirPro Gold 2T1 delivers immediate cost savings to corporations and telecom
operators by facilitating voice and data applications simultaneously with
outstanding performance and reliability," said Sam Smookler, President and CEO
of P-Com. "AirPro Gold 2T1 offers private and public network operators the
opportunity to eliminate the recurring costs associated with leased lines or to
combine traffic flows to their specific network needs."
How APG 2T1 Works
In locations that require connectivity between two nearby buildings, such as a
campus environment where both T1 and Ethernet transport are necessary, only two
APG 2T1 radios are needed instead of four. Typically, two radios are necessary
to carry T1 traffic and two radios are necessary to carry Ethernet traffic. In
addition, enterprise users can eliminate leased T1 or Ethernet lines entirely
by leveraging the wireless broadband capabilities built into APG 2T1.
For telecom carriers, APG 2T1 can significantly reduce technology and
maintenance costs in handling backhaul traffic to a central base station from
remote, geographically dispersed sites. With AirPro Gold 2T1's
Point-to-Multipoint capability, a single radio can manage multiple T1 wireless
signals co-located at a central site from remote sites. As a result, APG
provides equivalent backhaul capabilities with only three radios -- a single
multipoint base station and two geographically dispersed remote stations. Even
in this technically advanced Point-to-Multipoint operational mode, AirPro Gold
T1 still offers DSL-like speeds on its wayside Ethernet channel.
AirPro Gold T1 also offers forward compatible versatility because of its
ability to rapidly and easily change interfaces. AirPro Gold 2T1 can easily be
converted into AirPro Gold.Net or AirPro Gold.E1 by simply changing plug-in
modules and modifying firmware. The conversion process is also reversible at
any time, which enables Air Pro Gold to adapt to the evolving needs of
customers' network requirements.
