Japan Airlines Corp. (9205.TO) President Haruka Nishimatsu said Tuesday his firm aims to conclude tie-up talks with a single airline partner by mid-October.
Japan's largest carrier by revenue is in talks with U.S. forms Delta Air Lines Inc. (DAL) and American Airlines parent AMR Corp. (AMR) to take a stake in their Japanese counterpart.
The president of the airline commonly known JAL told reporters his company is likely to choose just one partner as part of its overhaul plans.
He said details of his company's tie-up have not been determined yet, but added that the firm will pursue "drastic" reorganization of its routes.
Nishimatsu was speaking after meeting with an independent panel set up by the transport ministry to oversee the airline's revival.
The financially strapped airline is currently putting together a business turnaround strategy, which is scheduled to be announced by the end of the month.
