Group 1 Software's GeoTAX Achieves Certification from Florida
Department of Revenue
Tax Certification Process Streamlined for Cable and Telecommunications
Providers
LANHAM, Md., May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Group 1 Software, Inc., a Pitney Bowes
Company, today announced certification by the State of Florida Department of
Revenue for its GeoTAX(R) products for determination of local tax
jurisdictions. With this certification, telecommunications and cable providers
using Group 1's GeoTAX in Florida will receive a higher tax collection
allowance (.75 percent versus .25 percent). In addition, GeoTAX customers in
Florida are now automatically granted the "hold harmless" provision of the
Communication Services Tax in Florida, enabling telecommunications companies to
bypass the cumbersome 3-6 month certification process for their customer lists.
The Florida Department of Revenue, which has used GeoTAX since early 2001 as
part of its internal tax determination solution, found the GeoTAX database to
be 99 percent accurate, far surpassing the 95 percent accuracy level required
for certification. Group 1 has exclusive use of the Tele Atlas North America
(formerly Geographic Data Technology, Inc.) municipal boundary dataset for
current jurisdictional boundary information for tax applications.
"Group 1 partners with other industry leaders, such as Tele Atlas, to provide
best-of-breed solutions for our customers," says Steve Walden, vice president
and general manager of Centrus, a division of Group 1 Software. "Our address
matching and advanced geocoding capabilities, combined with Tele Atlas' ability
to keep current with the more than 5,000 changes made each year to
approximately 20,000 municipal boundaries nationwide, uniquely provides GeoTAX
customers with a total solution for the precise assignment of tax
jurisdictions."
More About GeoTAX
With tax jurisdictions constantly changing and new tax jurisdiction assignment
requirements mandated by federal and state laws, the potential liability
resulting from inaccurate tax assignment poses a significant problem. GeoTAX
is a comprehensive solution that standardizes addresses and appends state,
county, municipal place, and special tax jurisdiction information to customer
address records. To ensure businesses utilize more accurate address information
for tax jurisdiction assignment, GeoTAX provides exclusive access to the most
current taxation boundary information through a data update process that
continually tracks and updates taxation boundaries nationwide. GeoTAX reduces
customer financial risks and regulatory liability, and is compliant with the
Mobile Telephone Sourcing Act.
