MILAN (MF-Dow Jones)--Fiat SpA's (F.MI) possible takeover of General Motors Corp.'s (GM) unit Adam Opel GmbH may still be possible despite the Germany government picking Magna International Inc. (MGA) for a deal, said Italy's Industry Minister Claudio Scajola Thursday.
Comments from the German government "may mean that six months from now" Fiat's bid will be "reconsidered," said Scajola on the sidelines of a conference in Milan.
Scajola also said Fiat's bid for Opel was the "best" one made.
The German government early Saturday said it selected Magna as a partner for Opel and agreed on providing EUR1.5 billion in bridge financing from the federal and state governments, paving the way for a takeover by Magna and its two Russian partners.
Wednesday, German Economics Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg said the deal struck with Magna is non-binding.
