The group, which runs two-thirds of the London Underground network, said pre-tax profits in the year to March 31 were £50.6 million. The figure includes £24.1 million from Metronet's BCV group, which runs the Bakerloo, Central and Victoria lines, and £26.5 million from its SSL company, which covers the sub-surface Circle, District, Metropolitan and Hammersmith & City lines. | tonyleongson | |
24/10/2004 19:56 | LONDON (AFX) - Metronet, the consortium responsible for the maintenance of much of the London Underground, posted a 50.6 mln stg pretax profit in the year to March 31. That compared with a 6.8 mln stg loss in the year-earlier period. Metronet is made up of five equal partners, including UK support services group WS Atkins PLC and construction group Balfour Beatty PLC. The other shareholders are Canadian engineering group Bombardier Inc, along with two utility companies Electricity de France unit Seeboard and Thames Water PLC, which is owned by Germany's RWE AG. Metronet is responsible for upgrading, replacing and maintaining two-thirds of London Underground's infrastructure - its trains, stations, signalling, track, tunnels and bridges - under a 30-year contract which came into force in April 2003. | tonyleongson | |
