22/6/2004 08:39 | Well I think that I will hold for the forseeable future on the back of these very solid results, all divisions seemingly healthy and serious levels of cash generation which gives plenty of headroom for new contract bidding work. I'm just afraid that my portfolio is begining to resemble a one trick pony! Nice pony that it is. | salpara111
22/6/2004 08:17 | Now trading above £6 and no intention of selling any whatsoever, with news like this the price is likely to climb steadily towards £7 with the next few months: LONDON (AFX) - WS Atkins PLC saw full-year pretax profit surge to more than 56 mln stg in the full year to March, compared with a re-stated 18.7 mln stg last year, thanks to a lucrative contract to upgrade the London Underground. This excluded Metronet bid costs, the Colchester Garrison dilution gain, amortisation of pension fund deficit, amortisation of goodwill, exceptional items and employee benefit trusts. Unadjusted pretax profit was 62.0 mln stg, compared with a 45.3 mln stg loss. "This reflects the strength of the group's underlying businesses, the continued control of the group's overheads and the elimination of loss-making contracts and low margin activities," the company said in a statement. The results include the first year of activity in the London Underground Metronet PPP companies. The forward order book is "healthy," the company said, with approximately 60 pct of budgeted turnover for 2005 secured at the start of the new financial year. The company also said Stephen Billingham, group finance director, will leave the board on Aug 24 to take up the appointment as FD of British Energy PLC and will be succeeded by Robert MacLeod, currently group financial controller. Michael Jeffries, chairman of Atkins, said: "The outlook for our markets is robust. We will continue to focus on our core competencies, with margin improvement and cash generation remaining key." oliver.wagg@afxnews. | cashflo
