Woolworths Group plc today announces the appointment of Peter Bamford to the
Board as a non-executive Director with effect from 4 February 2008.

Mr Bamford, 53, served on the Main Board of Vodafone Group plc (1998-2006)
holding a number of senior executive roles in that business including Chief
Executive Vodafone UK Limited (1999-2001), Regional Chief Executive (2002-2003)
and Chief Marketing Officer (2003-2006).  Previously, he has held a number of
senior general and commercial management positions in the retail sector
including at WH Smith Group plc, Kingfisher plc, and Tesco plc.

He is a Non-Executive Director of Rentokil Initial plc and Chairman of The Key
Revolution.

No further details remain to be disclosed for the appointment as required under
LR 9.6.13R of the Listing Rules of the UK Listing Authority.
