Nice bounce but happier if it goes above 280p and is sustained!

I see Murphy has got his little nest-egg lined up. On previous form, when the company is sold, all the "conditions" will miraculously disappear and the wee man disappears with the lot. If you don't buy that, just check his track record: move in, waste a few people and projects, drive profit up short-term, then bail out. A leopard can't change its spots anymore than an Irishman can loose his blarney

Have sold down 50% @ 260p and monitoring the situation.
Can make better use of the money in the interim!

The news that Murphy was joining did not fill me with joy. I have been a shareholder in IOV for some time and I cannot see any evidence of Murphys reign having doubled the price, although we did see a high of 28 from a low(memory can play tricks)of 17.I do think that he may have had some pressure from private shareholders to contend with, but I think the final terms when IOV was merged with vec were poor for iov holders.
Let us all hope that my doubts are not justified and that he takes whm forward.
I do think that Thian is ruthless so he has not got long to prove himself.

So - it was down!!!!

Well CEO Bill Emhiser has stepped down (yet another Yank fired!) and Kieran Murphy takes the hot seat.

2006 was not a good year!
What with accounting errors and loss of customer base due to restructuring causing lower than expected revenue growth. That's what happens when you take your eye off the ball with the SKP fiasco, Bob!

Still, margins were only slightly lower, some 2006 orders were only deferred (we hope), Biometra has been sorted and the Chinese JV looks a good business move.

Chairman Bob Thian said: "Whatman is currently underperforming and it is
disappointing to report that the company has missed successive sales growth
targets during 2006."

YOU CAN SAY THAT AGAIN BOB - NOW CONCENTRATE!!!!!!!

You've no doubt heard of 'Bob the Builder' - well, start building!

It'll be interesting to see which direction it will take from here with the recent consolidation pattern.

Hello Flow

Good performance today in poor markets. So it's 285p and beyond!

Hi Hallums

Thanks for your comments.
I talk to the trees - that's why they locked me away!

Looks like another leg up is in the offing maybe a test of 285p.

Hope you are right - I have just averaged by adding to my holding purchased at a higher level.

Keep up the information on the BB - I shall be reading it though I will not be in a position to add any original thinking to it.

285p is a critical resistance level to penetrate which looks achievable with the current momentum.

Well that meets and exceeds my prediction rather sooner than expected!
285p is now very likely, which takes us back to the original over-reaction point!

That's a stonking good rise today.
Very pleased to have some very positive newsflow - glad I hung on despite the recent plummenge!

LONDON (AFX) - Separation and filtration firm Whatman PLC has forged a joint venture in China with Hangzhou Xinhua Paper Industry Co, combining the two
companies' manufacturing and marketing operations.
The JV will be 75 pct owned by Whatman, which will contribute assets,
know-how and investment capital. Xinhua will own the remaining quarter and
contribute its profitable chemical analysis filter paper business which sells
under the "Double Ring" brand.
A purpose-built manufacturing facility in the Zhejiang Hangzhou Tonglu
Economic Development Zone in South-East China, will be built, and is expected to
be completed in 2008. Xinhua's filter paper business will be re-housed in the
new facility.
The business had revenues of 2.5 mln stg in 2005.
Chairman Bob Thian said: "From day one, we will have a profitable business
in China and we will be working with a well-known and reliable partner to
develop our joint presence in the Chinese market."
At 8.30 am Whatman shares were trading 3 pence, or 1.2 pct higher at 257,
valuing the company at 340 mln stg.

Solid stuff so hopefully a recovery story in the making!

A push to 275p resistance level looks possible!

Once it gets past 260p again!
