The news that Murphy was joining did not fill me with joy. I have been a shareholder in IOV for some time and I cannot see any evidence of Murphys reign having doubled the price, although we did see a high of 28 from a low(memory can play tricks)of 17.I do think that he may have had some pressure from private shareholders to contend with, but I think the final terms when IOV was merged with vec were poor for iov holders.
Let us all hope that my doubts are not justified and that he takes whm forward.
I do think that Thian is ruthless so he has not got long to prove himself.

Hi Kern

Welcome aboard!
This has been a 'long-termer' for me but is pulling together really well.

I only have a few stocks like this (I mostly spread bet), another one of note is Celsis (CEL) which has come off a bit due to a big acquisition & removing the small dividend payment. May be worth monitoring as the synergies through cross-selling look good.

LONDON (ShareCast) - Chemical products maker Whatman (LSE: WHM.L - news) said a solid rise in full year earnings, boosted by a recovery in sales in second half of year.
Pre-tax profit rose to £21.2m for the year ended 31 December 2005 from £0.5m the year before on sales which increased to £110m from £76.4m. The total dividend increased by 10% to 5.07p per share.
Whatman said the current year had started well, with first quarter sales up 11%
'Despite disappointing sales growth in 2005, we have seen substantial growth in profits and earnings at Whatman, driven primarily by the higher than expected synergies from the acquisition of Schleicher & Schuell in Germany," said chairman Bob Thian.
The group also said it had completed key executive appointments, including chief executive Bill Emhiser, former president of the North American operations of Proteome.

Positive start to the week!

The 2 year graph indicates that the WHM share price is quite volatile with recent intraday movements of 5+% being the norm.

In view of this I may alter my strategy & deal on a shorter time frame rather than remain a long term holder. However, the spread is typically wide allowing good margins for our MM friends but makes it less advantageous for the smaller investor.

I want to see a further bounce from here!

Intraday bounce off upward sloping channel resistance @ 275p is encouraging!

I also wish to reiterate that Bob Thian should be encouraged to keep his eye firmly on WHM. How can he possibly give 100% effort to WHM when he has fingers in other pies? The SKP issue will deflect his focus.

How many directorships do these guys need?
