14/3/2002 20:31 | Whatwoman. I agree with your posting Like you I have been watching the market makers play old harry with this one , very frustrating. The FT had an article on the results yesterday and what I could glean from it they were saying the results were not as bad as expected and that a profit of £2m this year looked conservative and that it should return to growth shortly ,needless to say the price rose on this only to see the share lose heavily today on small volumes There have also been large Institutional purchases recently and I am convinced the market makers are building up to satisfy their needs and the small man is being panicked into selling the spreads offered are absurd . | pfmaguire
14/3/2002 16:14 | Zig Zags ? ..... down 9% at this time and still with an 8% spread. ainsoph | ainsoph
14/3/2002 16:07 | good luck to all of us, but I think this has bottomed. it has a market leading position in its niche markets, is in a resilient field that shows strong growth, and as long as the company is managed well it should be able to exploit this. Its trending upwards (with zig zags on the way) with accompanying volume. thinly traded it may be, but medium term hold for me. | theape
14/3/2002 15:26 | I have more than 150,000 of these shares, and have been following the shares for a long time. I like them but the market does not.The shares are now showing a massive loss for me.Hope you newcomers to this company know that the fundamentals shown on these advfn pages are way out of date. The profits, eps and p/e are for the y/e2000 when they made exceptional profits on sales of subsidiaries. The shares are totally controlled and manipulated by the few marketmakers. They push them up just before the y/e results, hold steady for a few days, then let them slip after new buyers jump onboard. As regards institutions jumping onto the shares, note that some have also offloaded quite big chunks. I hope for all our sakes this co. turns out ok. Good luck to you all. | whatwoman

14/2/2002 23:21 | From citywire: 19:11, Mon 4 Feb 2002 Monday Shrewd Snapshot Some familiar faces to regular followers of the Shrewd Snapshot started the week by topping up in ITE Group and Pilkington's Tiles and healthcare company Whatman has attracted some shrewd interest. * Chris Mills' North Atlantic Smaller Companies investment trust (NAS), in concert with management company JO Hambro and sister fund Oryx International Growth, has upped its stake in Whatman (WHM). Mills’s stake has increased by 3.2 million shares to 8.7 million or 6.7%. The company, which makes medical filters, issued two warnings in the second half of last year. The second one in December included plans to restructure operations and review products. House brokers UBS Warburg reckons the £126 million company will make a pre-tax profit of £2.4 million in 2001 and £7.4 million in 2002. The shares, which hit 363p in 2000 and have recently been as low as 78p, finished unchanged today at 100p. | reetus

04/2/2002 17:17 | Holding notice this evening shows further buying from the hambro group but what about the other 3m that was traded on the 30th Jan? | stable
30/1/2002 23:11 | Two large trades of 3m shares at the mid-price. I expect we'll have to wait for a 'Holding in Company' announcement tomorrow. Didn't seem to have much effect on the share price today, but may cause a reaction when the buyer/seller is known. | reetus
