28/4/2004 16:38 | Other possibility is when someone has accidently typed in the wrong number of shares to sell at an earlier time, then decided to get rid of the odd amount left at a later date. eg I have 10930 shares, but in a hurry I type sell 10390 shares. This leaves me with 540 shares, which I leave for a while since I don't want to spend an extra £10 or whatever dealing fee to sell £20 of shares. But one day I decide to get rid of them to tidy up my portfolio screen, hence sell 540 shares. | opthalmist
28/4/2004 16:29 | Just spoke to a colleague of mine that used to work on the trading floor. Doesn't anymore I hasten to add otherwise I would be best buddies with him at the moment :0) I only thought of asking him after posting the question. He said that the small trades which aren't worth much could just be from someone playing with the chart. For example if those two sells hadn't gone through then we would have finished up 4.8% on those previous trades. However due to those very small trades the MM's were able to bring the price back down. He said not to read too much into it. The other thing he said was that it could be down to some one using a Black Box to trade. It would just clear out certain stocks in the portfolio of a user automatically without User intervention. Sounds reasonable to me. | dj_curtis
