RNS Number:4050O The Wellcome Trust 21 December 2006 PRESS RELEASE FROM THE WELLCOME TRUST In July 2006 the Wellcome Trust became both the only UK domiciled non-public sector organisation with a AAA/Aaa credit rating and the first UK charity to issue listed bonds (through its subsidiary Wellcome Trust Finance plc). The bonds are listed on the London Stock Exchange, which requires an announcement of the results of the Wellcome Trust and Wellcome Trust Finance plc. The Wellcome Trust announces that its Annual Report and Financial Statements for the year ended 30 September 2006 have been approved. The investment base of the Wellcome Trust Group grew to #13.9 billion at 30 September 2006, compared with #12.3 billion at 30 September 2005. The figure of #13.9 billion includes the proceeds of the #550 million bond issue in July 2006. The net assets of the Group grew to #12.7 billion at 30 September 2006, compared with #11.6 billion at 30 September 2005. The overall investment return was 12.8% during the financial year (2005: 22.0%). Charitable commitments of the Group totalled #484 million during the year, compared with #486 million for the previous year. Charitable cash payments during the year totalled #476 million, compared with #516 million for the previous year. Wellcome Trust Finance plc also announces that its Annual Report and Financial Statements for the period from 26 June 2006 to 30 September 2006 have been approved. At 30 September 2006, its investment assets were #682 million, with net assets of #137.5 million. The 2006 Annual Reports and Financial Statements of the Wellcome Trust and Wellcome Trust Finance plc will be available in mid January from the Trust's web site www.wellcome.ac.uk.
