11/7/2016 19:09 | Yes, that much is in the link. | jonwig
11/7/2016 18:00 | If you google them, a financial services company based in the British Virgin Islands | busters
11/7/2016 16:12 | Just announced: Seek Ventures Limited holds 12,000,000 ordinary shares of £0.01 each, representing approximately 4.7 per cent. of the issued ordinary share capital of the Company. OK, who knows anything more about them? | jonwig
11/7/2016 09:08 | multi - international students are no longer counted in the immigration numbers. They need to show they have a firm place from a bona fide institution (not a dodgy set up) and can support themselves financially. They receive a visa for the study period which can be renewed if the UK agrees. | jonwig
11/7/2016 08:28 | UK Uni and higher education has a fantastic global reputation. Weakening of the pound may therefore make this more affordable for international students and hence more requirement for accommodation. Not sure how international students are affected by UK Border Regulations though currently. | multibagger
11/7/2016 07:13 | from student room - doesnt look good if they stil have space open sign Top unis announce Clearing course spaces: 20 of UK's top 10 have space More than half of the top 20 UK universities are offering course places via Clearing this year. 09/7/2016 18:54 | They could always fly to somewhere central, like Birmingham, which would be fairly convenient for me as I live near Nottingham. I probably shouldn't remind certain people of the plane though. | alan@bj
09/7/2016 18:10 | Too far for me as well. Won't there a video capture to watch? Incidentally, at some point I'm going to ask them if they might hold their AGM at home in Bangor or, failing that, somewhere in the Northern Powerhouse - Manchester, why not? Maybe somebody could pre-empt me. | jonwig
09/7/2016 18:06 | Too far for me. I'd be grateful for some feedback after the event though. | alan@bj
09/7/2016 17:58 | Just a reminder that Watkin Jones will be presenting at our Beckenham Mello dinner this Wednesday and all investors and shareholders are welcome. The presentation and Q&A will be about 75 minutes. | davidosh
09/7/2016 15:18 | Well I'm sticking with it. The share price has taken a knock because sentiment towards the property sector generally has turned negative. It will come back, and in the meantime you pick up a 6% dividend here. | alan@bj
09/7/2016 14:56 | tightfist - capital values of built properties ... will they impact WJG's business model, ie. costs plus mark-up? Possibly, but also possibly students and BtR will supply the demand. I can't imagine UK turning away overseas students or young people preferring rent to purchase. BUR - looking back over the thread: a lot of buyers have been, sliced and gone. I used to do that sort of thing! | jonwig
09/7/2016 12:53 | Thanks Jonwig for the FT link, it's a good context to the wider aspects of the sector. The 35-year trend chart is pretty compelling. The biggest concern I have specifically about WJG's model is are funds going to continue to commit fresh capital? if rental demand is uncertain in the event that we head towards a full-blown recession. The increasing attraction of the Yield is obvious. Cheers, tightfist O/T PS: BUR is looking good - a perverse impact of VW playing hard-ball? And USD earnings. | tightfist
09/7/2016 10:01 | won't be able to sell new units if all the big funds are facing redemptions and be skint they won't have a need to own planes if they aren't doing much | dlku
09/7/2016 09:43 | The changing face of build-to-rent: | jonwig
08/7/2016 06:48 | Excellent, cheers alan. Here's the intro to their tip: "Bed down with Watkin Jones With the UK's historically low interest rates facing the prospect of falling even further and gilt yields already in negative territory, it's hardly surprising that institutional money has been looking for investments that offer better returns but still boast a high degree of security. The relatively defensive student accommodation property sub-sector has become a popular way of seeking such returns. However, one of the problems is that, given the limited secondary market in such properties, there are few obvious conduits between institutional money and the expertise needed to develop and manage such properties. Watkin Jones (WJG) offers a novel solution." | rivaldo
07/7/2016 18:56 | One of Investors Chronicle's Tips of the Week, for "its low capital risk model and high yield." | alan@bj
05/7/2016 20:15 | M&G and Aviva suspend property trusts as Brexit risks crystallise - as it happened Pound plunges to new 31-year low as property funds refuse to let investors withdraw money after a rush of post-Brexit redemption requests Get experimental mobile alerts for the June US jobs report this Friday Pound crashes to $1.3000 M&G freezes fund Aviva suspends property redemptions They wont be wanting more WJG stock | dlku
04/7/2016 08:13 | Thanks Spellbrook. I should have spotted that myself; I look at the Chronicle's website virtually every day to read the news on Newcastle United. I worked in Newcastle for 12 years so know the city very well. | alan@bj

30/6/2016 17:58 | I hope they are paying the P11D Benefits to HMRC which is based on new cost and the higher rate of personal tax, it would cost the company £1m frankly its disgraceful they have it for personal use | rubberbullets
30/6/2016 17:47 | alan - ADVFN has had a complete outer on some posts. I think they are trying to reinstate them. | jonwig
30/6/2016 15:30 | I posted a comment about the company's aeroplane yesterday that's disappeared. Not the plane, the comment. Basically, after looking through the admission document again I reckon that in September 2016 the plane will be written down to around £2.6m and the mortgage outstanding will be about £1.6m. The mortgage is to be redeemed 27th August 2017.The figures are small beer relative to the strength of the balance sheet in my view. | alan@bj
30/6/2016 14:07 | The post a day or so ago outlining Zeus's analyst update and 160p price target was lost by ADVFN, so here it is again since it was posted elsewhere: "Zeus note issued this morning per a poster elsewhere concludes: "Valuation not reflective of forecast certainty: Watkin Jones has not been immune from the selloff post last week’s referendum. At last night’s close the shares are just 4% above the 100p IPO price and trade on just 8.4x FY16 earnings and offer a 6.1% prospective yield on a balance sheet with estimated net cash of c.£36m. A 12x PER multiple on FY17 earnings would equate to c. 160p, offering c.50% upside." | rivaldo |
