Sorry to see this happen to any company and its shareholders but VDS was doomed from the start - conceived in Australia and listed in the UK by their former chairman who has a track record of taking companies public too early in stock markets in which they have little, if any operations. The MO is then to exit the company and leave the management team pedaling to meet the public investors expectations - TPS is a similar example where the company started in England and was listed in Canada first, then dual listed on the LSE before coming to AIM.

The other problem they faced is that the bigger players didn't take too long to deliver equivalent or better features and their window of opportunity closed pretty quickly. They really didn't have much of a unique offering and this one should never have been IPO'd in my humble opinion, but it wasn't the first and won't be the last to fall into this category. Would have fared better back in the late 90's but not today. The economic downturn has little impact on companies where they have a me too solution and meagre revenues.

I've just come across the VDS news. I was rather surprised perhaps because my vague prediction of a long time ago has turned out to have been accurate. FBT isn't really in the streaming market but Stephen may wish to take a look at the technology. You could leave a note on the FBT board. However, FBT doesn't have much money.

The BBC iPlayer can provide very good quality and YouTube has improved significantly recently by apparently hosting the videos in the UK. FBT's streaming quality is now very poor in comparison. Somewhat strangely, the FBT videos started playing after I had downloaded OpenOffice which seems to include a Java component.

Amazing spins

Maybe Stephen could integrate the VDS technology into his codec?

Not been holding since last year, nmf777. Shame to see their demise, though, as they had some great technology.

Thought they had a real future back in late 2006, when they started winning what looked to be big contracts and were increasing revenues quickly. But with no significant contract wins leading to product launch since that period, I guess the writing has been on the cards for a while. I wonder where the technology will end up? I'm sure it still has a use.

Deansaunders, if you read my post you will see that the AGM I was referring to was the Bright Things plc AGM, not VDS.

additional comment from lemminginvestor

Clearly, the slide in Vividas is overdone, though; illiquid stocks in very poor market conditions tend to have this effect. From the brief communication with CEO Paul Neville, it's also clear he has been bombed with many enquiries, some of which appear nonsensical.

In my brief update on the 7 November that VDS I suggested the company struggled to raise these funds and could only do so at such a discount. Neville told me this was in fact due to market conditions and small continual sellers especially from the original shareholder base in Australia , the price has continued to fall despite the good announcements VDS have made. Therefore the difficult market has really impacted the company and it has been very difficult to raise the money through capital markets. Paul said VDS are still looking for trade investor's longer term.

Investors need to be mindful VDS has actually made significant strategic progress during the last 8 months. Sales have been encouraging and the company has actually met market expectations.

Once the company has got over the fixed costs of being a plc and having significant R&D expenditure, VDS can move forward apace.

VDS have a very encouraging pipeline. ''We have closed around 20% of the deals that we said but the financial impact of these comes through in H2 as we are moving forward with getting content encoded before sites can be launched when we get a PPV revenue share.''

Paul pointed out the ABC trial contract in Australia which has been a success and we expect to move forward commercially. We have also announced commercial trial with Thomson Financial.

''We continue to invest in R&D and have new developments coming out in the next 3 to 6 months. We are still ahead of the game.''

rob: your missing the point perhaps.

Adult market is HUGE, and VDS still building library backlog for clients prior to going on stream end of this year, that IS where the 'movie' money is.

Current selection of films will almost always be relatively small scale individually, otherwise the films would have got a cinema distribution deal. The only real exception that I know is 'The Secret' which has been - and is - successful.

However there are plenty more strings to VDS's bow, for instance live sport streaming which is only just begining to take off.

Best wishes - Mike

Closed a short here earlier, think this has now fallen enough. Now it seems to me VDS are getting things in place to become profitable by the end of the year.

Have had a great time opening shorting Lemming Investor (non) tips over the year.

Of course we know they don't do 'tips', but still, when they said about VDS and the share shot up to 63p very quickly whilst they all came onto this thread and ramped, I couldn't resist. They have been very quiet lately. Nothing for them to talk about?

Had a great time shorting SOLA after Lemming's 'non-tip' earlier in the year too. I think that was about 597p, or something. Closed that one at a nice round 250p.

powowow,

I understand where you are coming from and it is the way it is going to go. Whether it is going to be VDS I am not entirely sure as i'm not an expert in that area. I think it could well be the way forward for the likes of Sony who have their computer compatible Bravia TV screens and also have their library of films using the VDS streaming solution they can deliver the product to the end user in the knowledge it can't be copied/pirated- this is one of the biggest issues in the film industry.

That is the future however in the meantime VDS have got to make cashflow in the next few months and the impression is that the pipeline of new leads is growing rapidly which all be well will be increase after IBC next week.

Worth keep an eye on what is happening with their partner in the Philippines Netvision. They are streaming live TV 24/7 at the moment over the net - IPTV is truely here. A matter of time before others sign up IMHO.

The figures you can expect from the ppv sports deal like Fox is that VDS will get 45-50% of the totak revenue. It is a case of trying to estimate how many people will watch. If they can get 50,000 watching per week you are looking at some very significant figures.
On the adult and film side you are looking at VDS taking 25% of revenue. The fim side is a bit hit and miss depending on the popularity. For instance The Secret, the first ppv film, which VDS did pretty much for free as a reference case, after a few months was getting 40,000 subscribers per month which to me was pretty impressive.

The adult side is where they have to keep a little quiet but that is where the easy money is as it is an existing market.

For sony type deas it is based on a viewed minutes basis.

Last years accounts are a bit of an irrelevence as they are only going fully commercial now. It has taken time to get the functionality buttons sorted out etc.

Things like www.netvision.ph will go live in the next 6 weeks or so and they will be showing their legendary boxer called Pacman
where they are quite likely to get 50,000 people watching the fight using VDS software.

They have a lot of fingers in pies. I expect many more fox deals such as for american football etc etc - great for Americans working overseas where games aren't shown.

I really think this could fly at some stage."

Hi, As one of the editors/researchers behind Small Company Investors Ltd (ultimate owners of ) I appreciate your viewpoint and understand the logic behind your comments. From a marketing point of view, it is extremely difficult to get our message across in the manner by which prospective clients will take note if there is nothing to grab their attention. Publishing factual statistical evidence is the best way to do this, but has the side effect to which you highlight. We are labeled tipsters, which we are not. Nevertheless, the best way to highlight our ability of unearthing future growth companies, we must publish historical data to support this.

You may visit many sites, many of which will purport to be star tipsters with superior track records second to none. The fact remains; they all quote similar statistics, but may dress them up differently.

May respectfully suggest you read on-site marketing, rather than I repeat the same here, lest I be accused of self promotion here. I am sure people here would much rather discuss VDS not us.

If you require further information, then please feel free to e-mail me via the site.

Best wishes,

Elric

PS. To clarify the point you make in post 721. VDS did not pass on price sensitive information to us. That said, we were told there are several deals in negotiations, two of which in our opinion, could be mega deals for a company the size of VDS. I must stress, VDS have not disclosed the identity of the companies to us, or used terminology associated with 'mega'.

PPS. As a gesture of goodwill, I am happy to forward anyone our last two reports on VDS free of charge and no obligation attached. Contact us via the website.
