Interesting leader article in today's Times about Terminal 5 now working extremely smoothly and attracting plaudits. VDI will hopefully be able to crow a little in their interims:

I hope PAR12's jesting with his comment about the markets going up big time :o))

PAR12, you need to go to the 19th hole and chill out! As you well know VDI is illiquid and tightly held - price reactions are and will be exaggerated on both the downside and the upside.

Ta colinhy. Sounds like a relatively small (though prestigious) job compared to most of their RNS'd work, but hopefully it'll be sorted out quickly.

Zarlink are quite a large quoted Canadian company - around $60m revenues per quarter. They included this in their just-released results:

"The Company demonstrated its video IP surveillance (VIPS) interconnect products with network video equipment provider Axis Communications and Visual Defence's digital video storage solutions at ISC West."

Maybe the company need to issue a statement regarding these issues; I was worried the the terminal 5 security delays where down to this system too. Bit worrying when you see the MM's drop the bid on selling of 25k shares; samething happened the other day.

Most issues like this are dealt with just as day to day business, and no actions are taken. So as long as they are sorting out the problem its hardly a reason to sell !!! and hardly a reason for the MM's to mark the share price down so quickly

New council chambers plagued by audio problems

The city is working to correct the problem, said Per Kristensen, city information technology director.

"It's a very complex thing we've done with audio-visual, we've put in some new technology with the contractor, Visual Defence, it's taking a lot longer to do the work," Kristensen said.

For some reason I just got sent this news alert - it's from last year, but reads well and I don't remember seeing it before, so thought I'd mention it:

"VISUAL DEFENCE ADDRESSES DOCTOR SHORTAGE IN BRITISH COLUMBIA WITH IP AUDIO VIDEO SYSTEM

Visual Defence Inc.
14/08/2007

University of British Columbia Medical School Implementation Enables Real-Time Remote Participation

Visual Defence Inc. (LSE: VDI), the security convergence company, today announced the successful installation of a comprehensive audio, video and control system for the University of British Columbia's Medical Provincial Academic and Affiliated Campus Technology (MPAACT) Project. The project is part of a critical strategy to address the shortage of doctors in remote areas of British Columbia.

MPAACT is the University of British Columbia's multi-year, innovative, distributed medical education program with support of the Government of British Columbia, the University of Northern British Columbia, the University of Victoria and six provincial regional health authorities.

The goal of the project is to create new opportunities for medical education across the province, increasing undergraduate class sizes through remote classroom training and ultimately increasing the number of doctors servicing outlying areas of British Columbia. The audio, video and control system that allows students to attend and actively participate in classes from remote areas of the province was designed with input from the Faculty of Medicine. Overall project management for MPAACT was provided by AMBiT Consulting Inc. who worked with various vendors including Visual Defence, responsible for system integration. The audio-video system operates over an IP network to deliver high quality live video and audio to students at multiple clinical sites, allowing instructors and students to interact seamlessly in real-time.

"The successful launch of the MPAACT facilities is a significant achievement," said Dr. Kristin Sivertz, Senior Associate Dean, Education for the Faculty of Medicine. "Without support from Visual Defence, it is unlikely the Faculty of Medicine would have achieved this significant milestone in the expansion of our medical program. The system not only allows off-campus students to see and hear class lectures, but also to interact with instructors and peers alike. The solution has helped position our school as a feasible and attractive option for doctors-in-training hundreds of miles away."

The IP Audio Video system has been designed to be extremely easy to use and ultra reliable. The Visual Defence software seamlessly integrates video conferencing codecs, high resolution video switching, digital audio signal processing, machine control and system processing over an IP network with ISDN connectivity.

"In order to be successful, the medical school instructors must see the technology as an aid, not an obstacle, to their teaching," said Dagan Sadeh, CEO, Visual Defence Inc. "Medical teaching is highly reliant on visual information. The system for the UBC Medical School ensures that students in remote areas are receiving a comparable quality of instruction as their peers." "

The spread is down to 1p now - tiny by VDI's usual standards. The bid price has remained nice and solid at 12p with the spread simply reducing from a ridiculous 3p/2.5p etc.

The m/cap is only £8.75m at 12.5p, against VDI's £7.5m cash pile and over £12m of tangible NAV. The business also produced a small operating profit in H2'07.

The H1'08 interims will presumably be in September as per last year. I'm looking forward to them and will remain patient considering the bullish
outlook:

"Outlook

2008 will see the full implementation of our security project in the Cote
D'Ivoire, completion of first stage of our intelligent transport system in
Quebec, and the installation of our new video intercom help phone system in
Stockholm. We will continue to focus on revenue growth in all key markets and
segments, and will look to reduce controllable costs appropriately whilst
maintaining solid investments in new product development, product enhancement
and our sales network. The markets for our solutions and services continues to
strengthen worldwide and the Board is optimistic that the company is well
positioned to take advantage of this growth."

Nice spots Dasein. Let's hope VDI can get more work from EuroMaint's US subsidiary (and the Latvian one too!).

Hopefully from your World Bank link some of the projects to be announced soon in the transport sector will involve grants for Abidjan airport's improvement:

"Apart from these new projects, four other projects in the education, rural development, and transport sectors will be reactivated in the next few weeks. These projects, which were suspended in November 2004 following the non payment of debt arrears owed to the World Bank, are estimated at a total amount of US$104 million."

Tasty contract indeed.and a good company to be doing business with

"EuroMaint is one of Sweden's leading maintenance company. Operations are conducted in three subsidiaries: EuroMaint Rail, EuroMaint Industry and EuroMaint Tracksupport. EuroMaint's companies are specialised in advanced maintenance services for the rail transport sector and manufacturing industry. Operations are conducted at a total of 18 locations in Sweden, Latvia, and in the US."

and steady developments in the Ivory Coast,

WASHINGTON. June 12, 2008 – The Board of Directors of the World Bank has approved three grants amounting to a total of US$127 million for funding urban infrastructure, HIV/AIDS, and economic governance projects with a view to accelerating crisis recovery and post-conflict reconstruction efforts of Côte d'Ivoire. These operations, which herald new commitment of the World Bank in the country, follow the approval, in April 2008, of a grant of US$308 million for economic governance and recovery.

You have to assume that VDI are building a global reputation in the transportation sector to keep winning prestigious contracts in different countries.

Even after the rise today the m/cap is only £10.8m, with a £7.5m cash pile and operating profitability in the last H2.

Yet another contract win - £1m this time. If anyone wants to build up a stake now is the time given the shares on offer, though hopefully the overhang will now clear (from a shareholder's point of view!):

"New contract

RICHMOND HILL, ONTARIO, June 16, 2008 - Visual Defence, Inc. today announced that it has been awarded a $CAD 1.9 million contract by Euromaint, Stockholm LokalTrafik's (SL) commuter train maintenance provider, to supply an on-board video surveillance solution for 52 SL commuter train vehicles.

Visual Defence will provide an end-to-end solution encompassing customized hardware and software as well as project management and installation. The solution will include Visual Defence's proven IP Mobile Digital Video Recording platform, mDVSS, as well as on-board displays for monitoring live video.

'This contract win, which follows the contracts awarded in Norway and Montreal, reflects our strategic focus in the transportation market, says Barry Tal, CEO for Visual Defence. 'We are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to provide the operators of leading mass transportation systems with our proven mobile surveillance expertise and advanced technology solutions.'

The project, beginning immediately, is scheduled for completion by Q1 2009."

PAR12, if you're referring to the 80k, that was actually a Buy. Try dealing online and you'll see. If you want only 20k you can get them at 13.63p!

Which obviously means there's still someone feeding stock into the market.
