04/12/2007 11:05 | The "unnamed African country" may be the Ivory Coast. A quick "Google" revealed this: "AviSecure Africa (Abidjan, Africa, 2007) AviSecure Airport Security in Abidjan required a logo which would portray a professional image and would reproduce well on garments, security badges, hats, signage and corporate literature." (Abidjan is the capital of the Ivory Coast) | smarkmmm
04/12/2007 10:34 | Thanks for that contribution Par12. Meanwhile from the Times today for the record: "Visual Defence, the provider of air-port security, closed up 2¾p at 17½p after winning a five-year contract with an unnamed African country worth up to $250 million." | rivaldo
04/12/2007 09:25 | Its dead in the water maybe the deal was only 1.4 mil and 2.5 mil DOLLARS over 25 years; No new buyers have been stitched up a treat; The season for TURKEYS | par12
03/12/2007 22:21 | LOL Arthurly - this cracked me up, still making me giggle: "Arthurly - 3 Dec'07 - 15:44 - 578 of 584 Yep that's the thing about contracts. They're really bad. Best to never have them especially very large one's." As stated above from VDI's results: "If signed, it will have a significant effect on Visual Defence's revenue stream and profits for the next 25 years." Par12, take a look at all the boardroom buying this year: 16th May - Chairman buys 1,029,000 shares at 17p 15th May - Chairman buys 1,300,000 shares at 17p 11th May - Chairman buys 650,000 shares at 16p 12th Feb - Four directors buy 625,000 shares at 16p 6th Feb - Non-exec buys 142,000 shares at 17.5p That level of buying says a lot. | rivaldo
03/12/2007 20:17 | Not alot of interest in this up to now ;-) | crystball
03/12/2007 19:56 | Did the Chairman sell all his shares ? | par12
03/12/2007 19:09 | I remember speaking to Bill Watson about this deal many months ago following the final results. He said at the time that the cost of implementing the security program was to be met via a new security tax levied on passengers. He also said that they would be looking for the Government to contribute to the initial start up costs. They are approaching this cautiously which is what we all want to hear. It would be nice to see a flurry of director buys now that the price sensitive news is out of the way. | nickcduk
03/12/2007 17:09 | I suspect its in Capetown. | hotfinance14
03/12/2007 16:04 | Do you have the terms of the contract to share Arthurly? It would be nice to se how/when the payments are going to be coming in over 25 yrs. A comment I nicked: Tasty maybe but one has to wonder whether or not the goverment of this un-named African country will still be around in 2 years let alone 25 years. I just get very wary when I see such a large deal over a long time frame involving un named clients and wonder, given the investment of time and money involved in establishing this contract, whether it will go bad? You do also have to wonder what incentives were given to secure the deal? | mikey_b
03/12/2007 15:44 | Yep that's the thing about contracts. They're really bad. Best to never have them especially very large one's. | arthurly
03/12/2007 13:20 | it's gonna bankrupt them? | mikey_b
03/12/2007 12:32 | If you read the final results released in April they say this about this contract - "If signed, it will have a significant effect on Visual Defence's revenue stream and profits for the next 25 years." | hugepants
03/12/2007 12:20 | Whats the Value of the VDI side of this deal 1 mil dollars or less ? any views; Price is retreating even at these levels ? | par12
03/12/2007 12:16 | I dont think you can compare with IND. As far as I understand it IND design the hardware. VDI implement the complete solution. | hugepants
03/12/2007 10:01 | Who knows ? You get in with one African country and maybe others follow. This contract could certainly be a company maker, presumably pushing it into profit next year. Some may consider it a little cheap compared to IND now ! | arthurly
03/12/2007 09:59 | Just a little more about our partner in this new venture:- They look like a pretty impressive operator that focuses more on the airport security side. It will be a good idea to piggy back on their coat tails. | nickcduk
03/12/2007 09:49 | It was a bit of a bolt from the blue that they managed to bag a contract in Africa. Will be interesting to see whereabouts in Africa they have managed to land. Looking ahead you would think that if they make a success of this contract they would be in a pretty strong position to pick up further deals. Africa needs heavy investment and expertise to help it develop its infrastructure. To do this it needs outside help and that would fit right into the hands of VDI. | nickcduk
03/12/2007 09:18 | Bit late start for me today - but great news to get up to - glad Ive hung on with this one - plenty more to come after this too imv. Visual Defence picks up major airport contract AIM-listed security company Visual Defence, has signed a deal along with its 50% owned subsidiary AviSecure Inc., with the government of an African country expected to be worth between US$140 million (£68 million) and US$250 million over 25 years. The contract is for a Build-Operate-Transf The airport's passenger safety and security screening BOT project encompasses risk assessment, security strategy development and complete strategy implementation including procuring, installing and integrating identified security technology, as well as hiring, training and managing airport security personnel. AviSecure, which is jointly owned by Visual Defence and its Canadian partner, SkyLink Security, will oversee the project management and general airport security administration. Following logistics and training, the current project is expected to be in full operation within six months. | tole
03/12/2007 09:11 | Any ideas as to what sort of proportion will be in the next 6 months 'build' period ? | arthurly
03/12/2007 08:50 | The price should certainly go a deal higher imo also - £7m cash on a £13m m/cap, plus substantial existing revenue streams, a bullish outlook - and now this. Sixth on the top risers board should attract a bit of attention. | rivaldo
03/12/2007 08:34 | The Market will worry about how they will do the work. I am sure Big investors will want a meeting. share price should be A QUID with a contract win like this. | par12
03/12/2007 08:29 | its a huge contract | hugepants
03/12/2007 08:25 | Oh boy :o)) Too right nick, a whopper! Not bad for an £11m m/cap company... "Visual Defence Inc.
