Nav is now nearly +15%. A good time to buy for the longer term or VOF both of which I closed a while ago for good wins????

It can't half shift quickly in either direction.

Need to be careful with the level of any support. Can often cause more problems later down the line.

A tremendous turnaround from down 4.2% in the first ten minutes to close up 3.4%. That's a demonstration of what can happen when things get less bad. However, I'm not sure that the catalyst, a statement from the Minister of Finance that he "plans to tighten supervision over capital build-up among public companies and to enhance the stock market's stability and safety." helps the real estate market which has the potential to hurt the banking system if the decline in property values gets out of hand.

I don't think the Vietnamese government quite understands yet how damaging this could get if it continues with its laissez faire approach. It doesn't seem to have learnt the lesson of the 2007/9 melt-down in the West. I hope it doesn't have to learn the hard way, although these Vietnam Funds will become very cheap long term if it doesn't.

AMT, agree with that. Towards the top of my watch list now.

What Vietnam may be attempting to avoid is the pernicious credit bubble
that has fueled the China property market, amoung others.

May be a better longer term option to let some air out rather than
rushing in with immediate support measures.

Sounds like they need to start printing money
The market got ahead of itself with a tremendous performance over the last couple of years. Nevertheless the prospects for the economy are very bright and market valuations are very cheap indeed. I will be looking to add once this sudden fall is done with.
It's what happens with the Vietnam stock market every few years but it always bounces back very strongly.
Their problems are much less than in Europe.

Vietnam is well positioned in both food and energy. It takes a currency crisis off the table.

I agree. I am considering adding but not sure the shake-out is over just yet. But vietnam looks better than most countries just now.

I've bought another lump here, tight spread, discount near lows, buybacks continue. I hold this and VOF but don't think there is anything material to differentiate. I like that there is no dividend here. Apple opening up plant here is just an early part of the trend of de-risking from China, and that will only accelerate. Nice to buy with the froth blown off the top. Still risk of declines but sterling cash faces just as many headwinds.

VNH has been c. 10% stronger than VEIL, in the few months I've held both. Need to look at the underlying holdings to explore why.

I have no idea why I got them at almost the bid, but trade #63 of 4,000 shares was my purchase. It is wrongly marked as a sale.

Given £/$ and the market's rise today, the fund must be on a 20% discount.

I think so. I joined the webinar late but was sent this today. The welcome doesn't say much. For the main presentation YouTube it probably helps to have the slides open:

It's worrying if tighter regulation causes a double figure percentage drop!

Why were his comments worrying? Please explain. Surely it is good for those investing in Vietnam for there to be proper oversight of the stock market?
