from Christopher Bellew's blog

If you need income you need look no further than these three investment trusts. You won’t know what to do with your money – they all yield the sunny side of 4%.

My third choice is Utilico Emerging Markets, a new entrant founded in 2005. It has gone up by 280% since then, giving a compound annual return of 10.7%. It is at a discount to NAV of 14.6% and yields 4.44%. The biggest country exposure in its portfolio is Brazil (21%) closely followed by China (20%) and then Romania (10%). No overlap with Merchants or Murray that I can see. In the grand story of our island history this is not a time to invest at home. Go west, go east but don’t keep your money at home.

I caught this one recently on YouTube (July 17th):

The ICM people do not talk often, so getting Charles Jillings talking about the trust is something of an event.

He does not say much more than he did a couple of years ago in the video from the UEM website though.

Thanks for your reply, jonwig. Yes, I did mean those. Were marked as O trades not U and largest, one million+ one made well before bell - hence my query. Thanks again for your thoughts on them.

@ Keyno - do you mean the four big trades reported at 5:15pm?

First, they are almost certainly delayed reporting. Second, I would guess they were merely transfers, such as husband-wife or an agreed transaction between two parties arranged through a broker.

So I doubt anyone is selling loads of stock, and change of domicile will affect the company's tax position rather than investors'. Don't worry about it!

Is anybody able to answer my post of yesterday, please? I can see there are some pretty clued up posters on here and I am a newish holder. Many thanks.

Were the sales yesterday likely to be tax-related, linked to UEM's move to UK?

Thank you for that, Jonwig. If I were an accountant, I might understand but, with your help, I have reverted to my default position of unworried ignorance.:@)

It's connected to the change of domicile from Bermuda to the UK. Under UK law, you can't pay a dividend without distributable reserves, so they did this convoluted process to create them.

As far as investors are concerned, I think the whole thing can safely be ignored. I think UEM will pay less tax so we will benefit.

Can anyone explain to me the purpose of the manoeuvre announced today, i.e. the issue and immediate redemption of redeemable shares?

Riskvsreward.

Yes they do. Perhaps I misunderstood the previous post.

Those who exercised their subs will now be holding the shares, and so
are eligible for all future dividends.

I would think the exercised sub shares will now be the common shares and will rank par with any other common shares by the ex-div date of the 22nd of March and should be entitled to the dividend. Please correct me kenmitch if my understanding is wrong.

Sub shares no longer exist by now as all have been exercised.

Sub shares do NOT get the dividend.

Yes. A great outcome for those who risked the trustee. I sold mine for
37p and 35.5p. Not as good but looked a good decision when sub price fell to
21p when Wall Street fell heavily. With hindsight should have bought a few back then! But
overall a good outcome AND for the Trust who now have £millions of new money.

the trustee did a great job exercising all the subs and sold them at 223p, making each uems worth 40p before cost, much better than part of my holdings sold at 34p.

@ contact - I guess so:

"... paid on 13 April 2018 to shareholders on the register on 23 March 2018. The ex-dividend date will be 22 March 2018."

jon,

does that mean I will receive a dividend on my recently bought sub shares/warrants? :-)

Thank you
