Tyco Chief Executive Edward Breen is on record for only small asset sales at the Bermuda-based company. But some analysts suggest he will need to raise the ante. A divestiture of plastics or ADT, the crown jewel of Tyco's security business, would involve deals ranging from $1 billion to several billion dollars.

"We believe ADT represents one of Tyco's most readily marketable assets given its potential attractiveness to strategic buyers," UBS Warburg analyst David Bleustein said in a recent research note

REf: Post regarding ADT contract terminations after 18 months.

It is true. Threatened with legal action as a 5 year contract had been signed and wanted to move service contract to another company. I thought it was a 5 year service contract but informed that it was a 5 year RENTAL AGREEMENT even though paid for the installation. Informed the installation was for labour only and everything (including the wiring was rented) apparently this practice is encouraged throughout UK. Excellent Poacher turned Gamekeeper ellie2309.

Shareholders and Government have been taken for a ride. No wonder Mrs T. refused to open ADTs Computerised Central Station back in the 1980s as all the profits went outside of the UK. Still happening today.

The cost-cutting moves are relatively small for a conglomerate that employs more than 250,000 people, carries about $27 billion in debt and operates in more than 100 countries. Tyco makes a wide range of products, including ADT burglar alarms, diapers, plastic garbage bags and medical supplies.

Excuse my ignorance in this statemetent, but ADT make a wide range of products including burglar alarms. In the old days yes, as far as I was involved (UK ONLY) The last ADT Conference (UK ONLY) that I was involved in, the mentionioning of ADT was that "we are not a product company but a service company and people are expecting us to be the next Titanic which will not happen" ( simular words to that exact effect ) Although the share price may show a SLIGHT Improvement, I do not believe in making the pyramid any stronger. Just look at the people who sold their shares before this surprise.

Tyco has received approval of the S-1 registration from the SEC with respect to the IPO of The CIT Group. However, Tyco will have to amend its Form 10-Q for its second quarter ended March 31st to reflect goodwill impairment associated with the CIT transaction. Tyco will take a $4.8 billion non-cash charge reducing its $11.3 billion investment in CIT to $6.5 billion. As a result, Tyco's debt to capital ratio will rise to approximately 49% on a pro forma

Tyco debt rating cut to junk (TYC) 10.15 -0.90: Moody's says junk rating affects approximately $25.5 bln in debt. this cut came just before the CIT story

Kozlowski's indictment -- Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau charged the former Tyco CEO schemed to avoid $1 million in sales taxes -- has led to a broader inquiry into whether the company used its money to buy homes and artwork for several corporate officials without telling shareholders, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

"If the CEO would take those kind of risks in his personal life, then you could make the assumption that he was acting that way at the company," Plaza said. "Kozlowski was so hands-on and so aggressive throughout all parts of the company that it had to touch other management. You could assume that type of behavior was either allowed or encouraged."

Notice the last sentence. Lets us just pretend that certain activities were encouraged in the UK. As this is a company registered outside of the UK for tax purposes, how would an investigation proceed ? Just curious.

From my own experience in buying and selling these shares, you cannot buy them electronically as they were only available in share certificate form. I dealt through Charles Shwabb for buying and and selling. My only problems I ever encountered was that they would only quote you a price and shares confirmation of order usually took a few hours. In the meantime the price could fluctuate. Selling was a nightmare, the price quoted was alweays subject to them receiving back the certificates for them to send away before releasing the money.

One of the main problems I encountered was the actuall dividend payments. Hope you have better luck if you believe they are a good investment.

Unable to buy these online....will leave it 'til next week, they might trade lower and in a smaller % spread.

Do we have any existing holders ?

Perhaps the spread is so big to stop you selling your shares. A bit like the penalty imposed on Equitable Life surrender policies.

Even the £10:00 reasonable price quoted by younasm above, appears to be breached for the worse.

This is an interesting share to keep watching. I always believed in what goes around, comes around.

Why is a company big enough to be on the FTSE 100 got this gigantic spread. Presumably it has its main listing on the USA market (or similar), but if they go to the bother of getting it listed here, why put up with that spread? To be honest, if I was going to buy shares in this (and I am not), I'd do it on its main market and save about 20% straight away.

Anyone who has a good explanation please post, as I am curoius
