PARIS (AFX) - Alcatel SA said it won a three-year contract worth over 15 mln
usd with Verizon Communications Inc to provide an internet protocol telephony
system for Las Vegas' Clark County School District (CCSD) in the US.
Under the contract, Alcatel will provide its OmniPCX Enterprise hardware and
software, while Verizon will contribute services including network assessments,
project management and installation.
Both companies will offer on-site technical support, training and
maintenance.
The 27,000-line system will connect over 300 schools and administrative
facilities.
CCSD covers the city of Las Vegas and surrounding areas, and is the largest
school district in the US.

PARIS (AFX) - Alcatel SA said it has won an order from Etisalat of the
United Arab Emirates to supply equipment to expand its network in the UAE.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Alcatel said it will provide an open services platform for offering
multimedia messaging and other voice and data transmission.

PARIS (AFX) - Alcatel SA said it has won 3 orders from Spain's national rail
infrastructure management company GIF to supply track management equipment for 3
high-speed rail lines.
The total value of the orders stands at over 180 mln eur, Alcatel said.
The company will supply its 6481 AlTrac and 6413 AlTrac European train
control system, which provides detailed train location and other information
over GSM-2 radio.

MILAN (AFX) - Finmeccanica SpA and Alcatel are studying the possibility of
creating one or two joint ventures in space equipment and services early next
year, said Finmeccanica's chairman Pier Francesco Guarguaglini and chief
executive Roberto Testore in an interview with the daily Il Sole 24 Ore.
Guarguaglini said the two groups have set up a study group to reach a
memorandum of understanding.
Testore added that talks underway are "very positive" and that Astrium could
link up with the two partners at a later stage.
Astrium is the satellite-making unit of European Aeronautic Defense & Space
Co (EADS).
The groups are studying the possibility of a joint venture in space
equipment in which Alcatel would have a majority stake and a unit in space
services in which Finmeccanica would be the majority shareholder, they said.
But "maybe there could be just one company" in which Alcatel would be the
main shareholder, Guarguaglini added.
Testore said Finmeccanica is expected to post a 7-8 pct increase in full
year sales to 9 bln eur and reach a level of profitability in line with 2002.
