Forgot to highlight one positive of scrip dividend for this: no income tax payable for UK resident, new shares form part of the CGT value, upon sale then potentially trigger capital gain, however people can use their allowance (no income tax is explained in the documentation related to the scrip dividend). This was highlighted by Kenny in the RUSP board, all credits to him Rambutan: 2008 yes they were active post GFC. I am not sure that they are more cautious than a VTA,CIFU or FAIR, the underlying positions across all of those are to a large extent first loss credit position using high leverage. If the market goes pear shaped, the mark to market on those positions will literally fall from a cliff, and together with most likely limited secondary market liquidity in a stress environment, you can expect very large decline in share price. Most of the existing similar vehicle that were in place prior the GFC closed down, i am aware of only one that was able to restructure (QWIL into RECI), albeit with massive loss for existing shareholders. I have exposure on some of the above. nice yield, but at some stage, the music will stop. timing is key, and liquidity in those is paramount

My hope is that their cautious attitude means that if/when the mkt goes pear shaped, they won't take such a hit and will then be able to take advantage of the opportunities offered. Much as they did post 2008. Meanwhile, we get paid to wait. Sounds good in theory!

I guess if you wanted to reinvest small ongoing divis, it makes sense for commission purposes - divi is split into 4 & the divi even on say 10,000 shares wouldn't be cost-effective to reinvest in the market. I bought two more tranches this morning ahead of tomorrow's XD - can't say the historic performance of TORO is confidence-inspiring, but I do like the discount & yield.

No, I wouldn't do it either. But plenty of trusts offer it, whether or not currently on a discount. I suppose it means folks can hold and forget and not have to worry about what to do with divs etc. http://uk.advfn.com/stock-market/london/toro-ltd-TORO/share-news/Toro-Limited-Notice-of-GM-re-Scrip-Dividend-and-Na/75927442 Currently the managers seem quite confident and the upping of the yield to EUR 0.02 per quarter would seem to reflect that.

A long read this morning, not sure I'll get through it, but this caught my eye & perhaps why so few brokers allow trading in it: " Summary An investment in the Shares is only suitable for institutional investors and professionally advised private investors who understand and are capable of evaluating the merits and risks of such an investment and who have sufficient resources to be able to bear any losses (which may equal the whole amount invested) that may result from such an investment. Furthermore, an investment in the Shares should constitute part of a diversified investment portfolio. It should be remembered that the price of securities and the income from them can go down as well as up. "

Occasionally wonder if I'm being saved from myself when get a message like that from a broker :) TORO would do better to make themselves much more tradeable, rather than just upping the divi. Unusual for the likes of Selftrade to not even recognise the EPIC.

"Please be advised that our Trade Support Team have restricted TORO from trading on our platform, this is a business decision and unfortunately we cannot disclose the reason for this, apologies for any inconvenience that this may cause you. If you already hold TORO in your account you will still be able to sell the holding just not invest further in it." So, sorry, won't be able to join you....

Tricky finding value with market making new highs. Seem to remember neither TD nor Selftrade would recognise TORO - not sure why. Bought in Jarvis but even then, only via phone - no online quote.

In these already; slightly surprised they (marginally, after last qtly increase) have upped divi target. Isn't as if the capital value has done that well, nor have they sounded particularly bullish in the updates. On the other hand, not complaining - would always rather take the bird in the hand. Also seems sensible that they're mildly de-risking. Feels like they earn their fees, though only time will tell - particularly how they come through the next crisis.

12 May 2017 Toro Limited Announces an increased Dividend target Toro Limited ("Toro" or the "Company"), the closed-ended investment company providing distinct exposure to European corporate and consumer lending, is pleased to announce its intention to increase payments to shareholders for the coming quarters. The Company's dividend target has been increased to at least EUR 0.08 per ordinary share per annum, compared to the initial target of EUR 0.05 (annualised) stated in the prospectus published in connection with the Company's May 2015 IPO. This follows the dividend increase to EUR 0.015 per ordinary share for Q1 2017 announced on 24 April 2017. The Board of Toro has confidence that the Company's performance can support this new target based on careful consideration of the current assets, the progressive rebalancing of the portfolio towards private asset-backed finance and direct origination strategies, and anticipated cash-flows under reasonable base case scenarios. Investors should note that the figures in relation to target dividends set out above are for illustrative purposes only and are not intended to be, and should not be taken as, a profit forecast or estimate.
