Ig , perhaps it may be an idea to look at your house insurance ,there could be a clause in the small print.

Besides , I must have the only sister the can burn sausage rolls on the top of the stove instead of warming them through , do you think the Korean chief would have a place for her in the kitchen?

Ig,the requirement for lining the chimney is to reduce the chance of acids and tar building up in the flue. Not only does this stop damage to the flue it also reduces the instance of chimney fires. The chimney is swept once a year and there has been no issue with birds dropping down or having a build up of soot, which also leads to fires in the stack. Also, without looking it up it may also be a requirement of some law somewhere.

Have two multi fuel stoves. Agree they throw out a lot of heat... Cheery on dark evenings too.We burn wood, with some coal and peat. No idea about our chimneys... Doubt they are lined, as we live in an old cottage in the Highlands.

Silly question Gonz
Why are chimneys lined these days ?
Ig Towers was built in 1925 and had 4 fireplaces in its day.
No linings in those days

Guessing a health and safety thing so the chimney does not catch fire
90 odd years ago I am supposing they burnt coal which did not leave flammable
residue unlike wood sap

My best guess
