                                 BOARD CHANGES

Thorntons PLC is pleased to announce that Peter Wright has agreed to join the
Board of Thorntons as Marketing Director. His appointment will become effective
no later than 13 August 2007.

Mr Wright, 40, will be joining Thorntons after eight years with Tesco Plc.
During his time at Tesco Mr Wright has held a number of senior marketing
positions across the business including UK Director for brand marketing, UK
Director for stores and non-food marketing and latterly as Marketing Director
for Tesco, Ireland.

Previously, Mr Wright spent eleven years with Diageo Plc having joined the
company as a graduate trainee. During his time at Diageo, Mr Wright progressed
through a number of senior marketing positions both in the UK and
internationally and was the Global Marketing Director for Gordon's Gin prior to
joining Tesco.

Mr Wright is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and a graduate of
the University of Cambridge.

Thorntons' Chief Executive Mike Davies said:

experience and track record in both retail and FMCG marketing. We believe that
Peter's expertise will help us further strengthen Thorntons and facilitate the
delivery of our sales and marketing led strategy. We look forward to working
