Mr Oz, absolutely spot on.
I wonder how many people have actually put their hands in their pockets and tried the product ?

Non of that metalic potassium aftertaste, just tongue sizzling microscopic salt crystals. Loads of patents protecting product and production.

If you're in the business of taste, this is heaven sent, nirvana, the dogs..

Governments and large food corporations are waking up to the health implications of high-sodium intake and MicroSalt is well-positioned to drive the reduction in consumption. In 2023, the company recorded a significant year of commercial progress for both its salt shakers and B2B business, including deals with two Fortune 500 companies.According to the admission document released last year, MicroSalt has established a commercial relationship with one of the world's largest snack food businesses, and Tekcapital further confirmed substantial orders of bulk low-sodium salt in its annual corporate review.© UK Investor Group UK Investor and UK Investor Magazine are registered trademarks of UK Investor Group Ltd (09932115) | All rights reserved? We'd like to show you notifications for the latest news and updates.

Lord. You are correct but there are substantial differences. I mentioned the confounding factors which are many and complex (many relating to practicalities of incorporating the technology in food production). Also the difference in molecule size can't be dismissed although I can't quantify it. What I can say is that SALT appears to have straddled the critical practical hurdles for high volume adoption with at least one major multi national. Brand reputation is the first priority. This IMO is validation. Given the valuation for the IPO the risk/reward is in favour of owning the stock. The IPO market is dead. The valuation is more like I would expect for a private funding round but they need the capital for production expansion. To me this suggests confidence. I may be wrong but I suspect that if the tech is anything like as claimed, it will be bought out pretty quickly and at a substantial premium.

Fluffchucker1 - you're welcome. Tate & Lyle's product came in three different grades, the finest of which was 20-30 microns.

So yes, Microsalt is considerably finer. But does this really matter, when both claim to reduce sodium intake by up to 50%?

And when both - in the case of Tate & Lyle's SODA-LO® Extra Fine M - have EXACTLY the same composition - i.e. sea salt (sodium chloride) & maltodextrin?

MicroSalt PLC - London-based developer of manufacturing process that produces a salt crystal about 100 times smaller than traditional salt, providing saltiness with lower sodium - Expects to make its initial public offering on London's AIM market on Thursday, with an expected market capitalisation of GBP18.5 million and issued share price of 43 pence. Tekcapital PLC, a London-based intellectual property investor, holds an 87% stake in MicroSalt and 92% in its US subsidiary MicroSalt Inc.

Thanks lord. I will take a look at the technology of Tate and Lyle. A cursory glance however suggest that their product was still 100-200 microns whereas my understanding is that the SALT is far smaller. I stand corrected until I have checked. It is a nightmare area as there are multiple other confounding factors. However if they have traction from at least one global brand it implies that these may have been overcome.

I've read this before. If microsalt has so many patents then it must be different to tate and lyle. Yes? If so what's the difference. Why is micro salt better?

fluffchucker1 - Tate & Lyle's product WASN'T sugar. It was a low sodium SALT - pretty much exactly the same product on paper as Microsalt.

Check out their archived data sheet on it below:

MicroSalt expects to raise £3.1 million in primary proceeds during the IPO - giving the company an anticipated market capitalisation of £18.5 million on admission. At this point, 78.4% of shares would be held by Tekcapital (parent), inferring its stake would be worth in the region of £14m compared to a current Tekcapital market cap of £13 million. Tekcapital has three other portfolio companies.

Well when the doubters are proved wrong we can rub some Microsalt into their wounds and presumably we'll only need half the usual dose to achieve the necessary result..

Lord. I understand your sceptism. I worked in this area many years ago but with respect salt is a different proposition to sugar. Salt is "taste". The demand from processed food suppliers for lower salt content and preserving taste is the holy grail. Most have reduced salt content that they can buy beyond a certain point taste drops off a cliff whether this is a loaf of bread or a can of soup. The alternatives just have not managed to fill the taste gap. The market is so collosal it would need only a handful of food producers to adopt SALT and the numbers would blow your socks off.

segaris - I started reading that article with an open mind, until I got to this bit:

"And despite a huge variety of sodium-reduced alternatives to traditional salt already on the market, none have succeeded in establishing a dominant market position.

There’s one simple reason why — they all taste awful."

That simply isn't true. Look at the plentiful online customer reviews for existing low salt alternatives (containing potassium chloride) & they're overwhelmingly positive on taste. Google "low salt" & you'll soon see what I mean.

The article also fails to mention that Tate & Lyle - with its vast resources - launched a very similar product to Microsalt years ago. And it flopped.

So I think we can take UK Investor Magazine's views with a very large pinch of salt.

So there are opportunities to spot undervalued stocks, as we know. But they can be overlooked for ages nevertheless and leave us scratching our heads. But is TEK going to reinforce my hard to follow rule - don't sell just because you're bored waiting!
