Looks like the New Zealand coal industry will look a lot different this time next year as Solid Energy gets rid of its mines. Lot of Indian interest and much depends on how much the new buyers go for the domestic market or not.

Huntly closing is 100,000tpa less on the market place but Rotowaro has an extra 300,000tpa since Genesis cancelled their order.

I don't think Huntley power station or Huntley East mine was part of the BOD thinking back when the tatu deal was originally struck. still it can't hurt if there is less domestic competition - provided the bod with all their experience have costed this correctly

From corporate update - 01 May 20115

The north island of New Zealand imports a significant quantity of thermal coal for energy generation and domestic lime and concrete production. The Directors believe that a number of potential large customers exist within a 150 kilometre radius from Tatu. The Company has engaged local coal marketers who are undertaking sales enquiries to assess demand and progress discussions to support the sale of coal from Tatu.

Cobre overheads up by US$386,000 over the 12 months to June 2016.
Cobre made a theoretical profit of $162,000 in H1 2015.
SML have no requirement to release any more Cobre costing figures until the Interims around June 2016.

From that podcast it looks like James Chisholm is a shareholder and nothing more in SML. Peters went on at length about Broomes value to the company and even the guy running Cobre but on Chisholm he just said he phoned him sometimes.

"John Peters, managing director of Strategic Minerals (LON:SML) says the firm’s Tatu coal mine in New Zealand has competitive advantages over rival operations in the country.
His comments come after the closure of a nearby competitor, Huntly East, also on New Zealand’s North Island, which sold coal with similar characteristics to Tatu’s.
“We’re operating a new mine at ground level, which gives us lower costs and allows us to meet demand from with the country and compete with cheap Indonesian imports," Peters tells Proactive."

Trouble is Jag, and I've seen plenty of DR's predictions, is that he's not very good at them. He used to communicate quite a bit with Cyprus Steve, nothing insider but indicators on how things were going, and they never came out the way he thought, I know he's well intentioned but he misjudges. Anyway lets hope he's really got something this time.

Cyprus Steve btw, for those who knew him, passed away a week last Friday he was a regular contributor to several boards not a ramper or deramper just s decent bloke passing opinion.
