Is that Woodford asset management the same Woodford as ran the Perpetual funds? If so he has some confidence in Stobart!

thought it would be a daily buyback not in one fell-swoop! Anyway no RNS which would have accompanied the buyback

so the 6 routes announced today from Southend seem to be focused on inbound traffic more than outbound traffic due to the timings. I expect that means less spent on parking but more on train tickets. I wonder what it will do to the average spend per passenger which currently stands at £20.

Article about Carlisle Airport in local newspaper. Interesting reading some of the comments at the bottom.

Carlisle Airport development bid quashed, this does not appear to be good news but share price seems to have held up. Was it expected?

Car showrooms could be hit by a strike by delivery drivers after talks between unions and leading transporter company Stobart Automotive failed to reach agreement.
Talks are to continue this week, but a date for industrial action could be set within days if there is not a deal.
The business, which is part of the Eddie Stobart group, delivers 1.6million cars a year – more than half of all sales of new cars.
Workers claim drivers from other parts of the Stobart business are being brought in to undercut wages.
Unite national officer Adrian Jones said drivers of the 400 car transporters at Stobart Automotive had voted overwhelmingly for action 'in order to protect their livelihoods'.

We won't be wasting a fortune on electric cars: Ford chief reveals why one green initiative is a non-starter
He added: 'If a strike goes ahead it will cause major disruption to the delivery of new cars to showrooms across the country.'
A spokesman for Stobart told The Mail on Sunday that the company hoped industrial action would be averted.
A spokesman for Vauxhall cars, which is owned by General Motors, claimed that industrial action would not disrupt deliveries as it would be able to switch to its other distribution partners.

Seems daft to me, but I sold out towards the end of last year.

The directors obviously believe they can see the benefits of this deal even if others appear to have taken a different view.

Bio mass is common everywhere now from small shared ownership housing projects fuelled by communal biomass boliers to largescale powerplants.
I don't know about Wilmington NC but I would hazard a guess that the partner is Greensphere who they are already working in close partnership with in the Biomass arena.

I think you will find the 'bio-mass' is wood pellets shipped out of Wilmington NC, and I also think that the pellets start out hundreds of miles away and are trucked down to Wilmington. Makes the 'green' element laughable, but no doubt the generous subsidies from HM Gov make it profitable. So who would benefit from a joint venture? Do our own research, but I happened to be in NC late last year and found the local papers were up to date with the commerce in wood pellets.

Not everyone, as I said, and maybe I am thick, and more at 126p. Of course you could say that in order to recommend the idea the director must believe in it but that doesn't mean he's right. Personally, I think that long-term this is the right move. Everyone knew that debt reduction was the only way forward and as they couldn't get away a retail bond issue their options became more limited. Ironically if they go ahead it will improve their rating.

Not heard about this before
At present, Stobart sources and delivers biomass, but it is planning a joint venture with an unnamed partner to invest in biomass power plants.

Well that is exactly what was on my mind. What value is ascribed to 49% of an entity which has just bought the transports?

The banks asked for it back because otherwise this deal would not have been executed. Can't believe the major shareholder gave blessing on this one though.

This is ludicrous the transport is the only part that makes money!

R & M

Whilst not saying the deal is good or bad a couple of things.

a)How do you know the banks asked for their money back?

b)They are retaining 49% of the logistics business which will need to be brought into the consolidated accounts. Therefore isn't the loss of ebitda half of the £25.6 mill stated and therefore near enough no impact after adjusting for the interest saved??

crown jewels gone

Balance of company worth a lot less than £493m. Banks asked for their money back
and that is what has happened. Biomass and airport and services will not make up for the lower ebitda figure going forward. Obviously they are better off with a zero interest charge (2013:11186 net). Shortfall therefore £14m or so, x p/e, say, 10 = £140m market cap gone which = 39pps give or take. That's how it looks to me, anyhow.

We need to know more information. They are vague about some items.
The Carlisle airport planning is currently being decided. I thought the new distribution warehouse was a standby plan if they were not to get the airport go-ahead. So what is happening there?
The share price has been doing well recently. Surely it would have been going down prior if it were not good for the company. Only the people behind the scenes know though.
