"In an interview with Sky News, Bank of England governor Mark Carney warned that the coronavirus outbreak could lead to a downgrade of the UK's economic growth prospects"Imagine being paid his money and coming up with a gem like that.

"The panic mode is full on," Ipek Ozkardeskaya, senior analyst at Swissquote Bank, wrote in a morning note.

The market may be "entering the period of peak fear," Neil Wilson, chief market analyst for markets.com, said in a morning note. "Blood is running in the streets."

Other analysts accepted that coronavirus could weaken consumer demand and disrupt global supply chains, choking global economic growth and resulting in a bear market. Yet they argued the current sell-off is overblown.

"It appears that the market has gotten ahead of itself and a rebound should be around the corner," Jasper Lawler, head of research at London Capital Group, said in a morning note.

"The world isn't going to be pushed in a major recession just because of coronavirus." Naeem Aslam, chief market analyst at AvaTrade, concurred in a morning note

CI.
You're a "savvy fellow". Buying when the share price is low.

Have a word with the folks spending our money buying-back SLA shares in order to cancel them please. I bet the buy volumes change little as the price falls.

Just to add to their woes u should raise a complaint at the tone of the email and the approach to customer service....that'll keep an expensive resource tied up for a few hours as they are compelled to take some sort of action with anything with the word complaint attached to it....and u might get 20quid compo.
Hate these companies that want us to do work for them.

Says Sir Douglas Flint: "......As we position our businesses for a more technology driven future, his direct experience of developing digital strategies and solutions in consumer-facing businesses tackling rapidly evolving markets will be of great benefit to our discussions."

What a pile of tosh.

I've complained several times over a period of two years about their pension platform having no PRINT function.

Their "technological" suggestions have included:

. Cut and paste into a document then print
. Use the Print Screen Function
. Use the secure message facility on the site to ask the nice people at head office to send a printed copy in the post.

The last suggestion came with a polite request not to ask too frequently. Poor dears, a lot of work for them obviously.

Standard Life appoints director in digital push
By David Thorpe

Financial services conglomerate Standard Life Aberdeen has appointed technology industry veteran Brian McBride to its board.

Mr McBride is currently chairman of online ticketing company Trainline, and is a senior adviser to Lazard's financial advisory business.

He previously worked as managing director of Amazon in the UK, and chief executive of T-Mobile in the UK.

He has also chaired online retailer Asos in the past, and been a director of another online retailer, AO.com.

Mr McBride will join Standard Life Aberdeen as a non-executive director. He will be paid £73,500 for this role and an additional £10,000 a year for being on the remuneration committee. He can also retain all of his other roles.

Sir Douglas Flint, chairman of Standard Life Aberdeen, said the appointment of Mr McBride was part of his strategy to develop the technological capabilities of the business.

In a stock market announcement this morning (February 26) confirming the appointment he said: "I am delighted to welcome Brian to the board. As we position our businesses for a more technology driven future, his direct experience of developing digital strategies and solutions in consumer-facing businesses tackling rapidly evolving markets will be of great benefit to our discussions."

Martin Gilbert, who co-founded Aberdeen Asset Management and is currently deputy chairman of Standard Life Aberdeen, will leave the board of the company in 2020.
