"During the year under review the Company opened its eighth Sports Cafe in
Bristol and continues to hold a lease on a property in Cardiff for the
development of a further Sports Cafe in early 2008. However, it is recognised that there is a limited number of cities able to sustain the Sports Cafe model of 15,000 square foot sites and the Company's strategy of expansion has been extended to encompass complementary brands and smaller sites in the future, capable of roll out into a significantly larger number of geographical
locations. This expansion strategy will incorporate both acquisitive and
organic growth options."

Does this indicate that the value and extendability of the brand is more limited than they thought, and that this put the dampener on someones enthusiasm for the ability to grow the business..... and to eventually turn a profit.....

gross margins are fine, but you have to either prove you can grow the business sufficiently to turn a profit after tax, or cut the costs to fit the scale of teh business...of course expansion adds cost which is not yet repaid by trading profits, but expansion too quick risks overtrading, perhaps they should be slowing expansion and generating some profits which they can then invest in expansion....particularly if funding requirements may become an issue at some point...

seems like they want to develop the brand portfolio which may allow them to increase growth forecasts, and mean that they can scale up in smaller leaps with lower funding requirements and potentially faster payback?

no advice intended,

RoL

Just starting to have a quick look at this again and the results, will post thoughts as they occur...

re the point above re the director departure, wonder if he had anything to do with either or both the ideas of the gaming side, or the touting around for a bid idea (if thats what happened, just my opinion/reading of situation that they may have been seeking one...)....

neither the online gaming nor the bid speculation seemed to have enhanced shareholder wealth....

To me as a non-holder looking to maybe buy in the results look quite poor.

To an outsider with no prior interest they probably look absolutely terrible.

Net current liabilities up to £3.8m catches the eye- does suggest they will have to do something drastic to turn their cashflow woes around.

Not sure why MM's have marked this slightly down. They really are a bunch a game playing muppets aren't they?

If they want to drop it much more I will buy more.

northwards.

I thought the same but didn't want to tempt fate.

Maybe his backers needed independent verification of accounts and will now sign off the lending to him.

Reason given for his departure "personal reasons" ummm. Does this fit?

Kinsella's departure is interesting....lays the ground for a bid led by him ?

They are strong/solid results. Growth and underlying stability of business being key.

Acquisitions, consolidation and corporate activity also likely to continue in the sector for foreseeable future.

No need for fund raising.

This seems as cheap as chips now. I won't be buying as have enough already. Happy to hold though.

Nice start to the day. Well done Sports Cafe.

ps. You mentioned the forthcoming rugby world cup. Now know your market & get some bitter/real ale in and a few more bar staff on key days. Good luck.

Not a bad set of results in fact. May see this hit 20p or so. Gl to all holders, tf

I still believe results will be average to good and a reasonable share price here is nearer the 25p mark.

We are still suffering the hangover from take-over disappointment but the underlying business is still good and it's only a question of time before we see a good bounce back.

Good luck.

Maybe, but it was also starting to look appealing to bounce-seekers. I nearly had a nibble this morning. Pity I didn't.

A very tight spread makes me wonder if they are looking to sucker a few more in and then keep them locked in after the results. We all know results wont be brilliant.
In the meantime I had better keep rubbing in case it falls whilst I am typing.

digger27, stick with the rubbing as it seems to be having an effect on SCA. Just ticked up again. Perhaps the results on Thursday could be half decent after all.
