FTSE down 105. SPIonly down 1.6p, so bad news already in the price.

But where from here, is the question. Needs to concentrate at where its strengths are.

Maybe Simon Gordon was behind the decision to reject the offer? Anyone know? Announcement alongside the results that he is moving on.

IPO at 210p in 2014. Almost back down to that level (223p).

Investor presentation has been put onto the website.

As mentioned previously why they did not accept the offer is beyond me.

Spire Healthcare posted a large fall in annual profit after it made compensation payments to victims of a rogue surgeon and margins were hit by lower NHS tariffs and increased investments in staff, training and marketing. Pre-tax profit fell 69% to £16.8m, as revenue edged ahead by 1% to £931.7m. Operating profit before exceptional items fell 15% to £92.1m. Spire Healthcare kept its final dividend steady at 2.5p per share. The company said it expected its 2018 Ebitda to be flat compared to 2017.

At least ebitda is holding up, but eps fall is dire.
Only a bid will help the share price.

HCA Healthcare, big company valued at 36 billion, their stock price is up substantially since Nov, seems logical as Spire at 1.2 - 1.3 billion would be a very comfortable acquisition for them.

Spiked very suspiciously into the close last night and seems to be continuing the run this morning.

You'll remember that Mediclinic's locked out for another three months (save the usual whitewashes), having abandoned its offer in November.

Which seems to be leading the speculation towards the idea that Mediclinic might be a seller rather than a buyer.

Assuming there's a strategic buyer out there. One possibility has been noted on the right .....

.......... as in HCA Healthcare, which is an idea that's going around. But we don't have any info right now so I'm just noting it here as market speculation.

With the director buying since the rejected bid I would be surprised if results turn out to be worse than expected, unless they are gambling on another bid at some point?

I see the full year 2017 results are due on 2nd March so not long to wait now. The volume and price action in the next few weeks might give us a clue about where this is heading.
