Glad to see progress being made behind the scenes. If they can bag some of these contracts the upside will be huge. SPSY hasn't really caught the imagination of the retail punter yet but I expect that will change following next set of results given both turnover and profits will be up very sharply. Im expecting the company to announce trading is ahead of forecasts as well. Given limited liquidity in shares I can see the shares up at £1 later this year.

WH Ireland have described this news as "Highly Significant" and a "major Milestone", and rightly make the point that it is significant that this process of gaining approval has been driven by a potential customer.

Announcement this morning that TruBrand has received a regulatory approval in China for the use of its materials on cigarette packets, following an application by one of its potential customers. The seem confident this paves the way for other customers to apply and get the regulatory approval.

Our customers
Our end customers include a G7
central bank organization and one of
the world’s largest commercial security
printers and papermakers, which
supplies the Company’s technology
to a second G7 central bank and
numerous other central banks.
Our solutions are used by:
– 19 central banks;
– commercial security printers and papermakers;
– Crane & Co.;
– national lotteries in six countries;
– suppliers of security threads for world currencies;
– Intralot SA;
– Scientific Games International inc.;
– GTECH S.p.A.;
– Governments of Turkey, India, Malaysia,
Norway and Mexico; and
– 16 states within the US, including Puerto Rico

The Company has made a significant and deliberate strategic
decision to aggressively grow its revenue and earnings through
the sale of secure materials beyond the covert central bank
products. This approach focuses on generating high margins
from our unique security materials, which include phosphors
and taggants for brand authentication. Taggant sales for brand
authentication using our TruBrandTM smartphone technology
will create new revenue streams for both materials as well
as for the Secure Transactions Group through cloud-based
server authentication, bringing a fully synergistic benefit
to the entire business.
Mirroring the shift towards secure materials beyond covert
technologies is an effort to further reduce and restructure
our staffing as well as our infrastructure needs. The shift
in emphasis will accelerate revenue growth, reduce costs,
and further increase and smooth out our earnings as we
go forward.
Prospects
The Company’s shorter-term prospects have increased with the
growth of the authentication business beyond covert materials
and hardware. In addition, while we are transitioning to a mode
of capitalizing on our already developed covert technologies
and customers, we have several significant opportunities
ahead for this side of the business going forward.
We are targeting six specific opportunities, three of which
are relatively near term and three of which are somewhat
longer term.
The important, near-term and significant opportunities are:
1) The continued sale of our specialty phosphor materials to
a security thread manufacturer providing product to what
we believe is a large Asian central bank.
2) The successful production-scale testing and consummation
of our TruBrandTM taggants by a large tobacco supplier in Asia,
leading to sales in late 2018.
3) Increased revenue for the Secure Transactions Group
from both online gaming and cloud-based authentication
services for our TruBrandTM customers.
The longer-term (two to four years) opportunities are:
4) The joint development and licensing of a polymer
banknote technology by a major printer of banknotes.
5) The development and supply of further upgraded
sensor capability to a G7 central bank in response
to a standardization requirement.
6) The sale of our smartphone technology TruNoteTM
for the authentication of banknotes.
We are pleased that we are able to supplement our
sustained and growing profitability with a number of
near-term and longer-term prospects of a significant scale.
We are particularly delighted that the authentication business
outside of banknotes is increasing ahead of expectations and
that it can provide a smoothing of our long-term banknote
business with its characteristically extended sales cycles and
delays. We believe that we have a number of transformative
opportunities ahead in several aspects of our business that
will drive near and long-term earnings growth for the
Company and its shareholders.
With the Company having reached sustainable profits
and having sufficient resources to execute on its growth
plans with its existing cash reserves, the Board is delighted
to start paying dividends. It intends to pay an inaugural
annual dividend of US$0.05 per share in June 2017 and
thereafter to pay the dividend in June after the audited
close of each fiscal year.

Spectra Systems Corporation ("Spectra")

Trading Update

This announcement contains inside information for the purposes of Article 7 of Regulation 596/2014.

Spectra Systems Corporation, a leader in machine-readable high speed banknote authentication and brand protection technologies, today announces that it has been informed by its covert authentication technology licensee, that royalties based on finished printed notes will reach a record level in 2017. As a result, Spectra expects that its profits for the year ending 31 December 2017 will significantly exceed market expectations.

Dr. Nabil Lawandy, Chief Executive Officer, stated: "We are delighted to have received news from our licensee for covert materials supplied to 18 central banks that the royalty component of the agreement will as a result reach a record annual high in 2017. Typically the final royalty, determined by the number of printed notes containing our materials, is not available until year end. This year, we have visibility that it is already significantly above expectations for the full year. Based on our licensee's projections for material purchases, we expect the royalties to be somewhat higher than average next year although not necessarily at these record levels."

Foreign income Tax advice all taken from HMRC site:Once you have your money from the US account you need to add it in your Self-Assessment, section called "Foreign earnings", see The profit will be added to your base salary and treated as a dividend payment....and as high rate tax payer you will be expected to pay 32.5%..... but as you have already paid 15% (assuming you have actioned the process to cut the US non-domicile rate from 30%, see: you can offset this 15% against any other UK Dividend payments you have in that tax year....but only 15%...if you end up paying the US IRS 30% you lose!.. Only 15% can be reclaimed via the "Foreign Tax Credit Relief".All taken from "If your overseas income and gains have had foreign tax deducted it may be possible to obtain relief from double taxation. Foreign Tax Credit Relief is normally the best way to obtain such relief, but if you do not want to or cannot claim it, you can deduct the foreign tax when calculating the amount of income and gains chargeable to UK tax. You cannot do both."The HMRC Example is:John received interest of £1,000 on which foreign tax of £150 was deducted.If John's top rate of income TAX is chargeable to UK tax at 20% and he claims Foreign Tax Credit Relief, then his net liability will be (£200 minus £150) = £50.If he does not claim Foreign Tax Credit Relief but claims a deduction for the foreign tax, his liability will be (£1,000 minus £150) = £850 x 20% = £170.All information taken from So whatever people tell you.... yes you still have to account for this as foreign income and yes it will be added to your overall income and yes you may/will depending on your top tax rate have to pay tax to bring it in line with the rest of your dividends tax...... I feel there is an issue here, are people telling the HMRC in their foreign income returns about this income or is Mr. HMRC missing some tax money....hmmmmmmmmPlease note if your investments are held in a UK ISA/SIPP then there's no need to claim the foreign tax credit relief as you are shielded from paying the dividend tax.But beware that neither ISAs nor SIPPs protect you from foreign withholding tax. The IRS and other foreign countries don't care about UK tax shields, so you will have to pay the 30% or reduced 15% withholding tax.

I think the tax taken off can be claimed back if you are a UK tax payer I am sure - depends on the tax rate you have of course - I am guessing this means if we have 30% taken off and it would be taxed at 32.5% in the UK then you can offset the full 30% - If you are a basic rate tax payer who pays tax at 7.5% on dividends then you have a penalty of 22.5% - Does any one here know if that is right

This is outrageous I am in an identical situation having a current W8-BEN form and still been charged the full American 30% witholding tax. I am getting more and more angry with American companies operating in the UK such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Apple, Starbucks etc who make huge profits in the UK but pay virtually no tax into our system. Something has to change!
