If I held SOF I would sleep well in the knowledge that if worste came to worste the Net assetys would, probably be worth over 220p and I'd get my money back whatever.

Somerfield did better on the market than Tesco today.

Don't say it either faxxer - have a heart!!

Two reasons for going to Somerfield: (from the Scotsman)

Fetzer Eagle Peak 2001 Merlot (£5.49, was £6.99, Somerfield, until August 3) was made by a woman. Nothing wrong in that, I hasten to add. Nancy Walker has wrung juicy blackcurrant bush, plums and mint aromas from this California red - and the taste is wondrous too - chocolate, cherries, dates and Tunes. It's soft and velvety with non-violent tannins and you'll adore it with lamb chops, grilled red meats and mushroom dishes. Good value.

Wine of the week
Veramonte 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Winemaker's Selection (£5.99, was £6.99, Somerfield, until August 3) tumbles from the bottle as inky purple as a glass of port. It smells delightfully of dark chocolate coffee creams, leather and brambles and is so intensely fruited you can almost chew it. Sup from a large wine glass with roasts or lamb shanks on a bed of mixed beans, and you'll be in heaven.

and if you want to read the whole unbiased article:

Fetzer always gets my tastebuds going.

It's broken the 200 day moving average. I'm back with a short position. The whole market is on the downward path and SOF in my opinion will probably go down faster

Thanks faxxer - nice to see the smaller players favoured and more evidence that somerfield isn't sitting on its hands.

Puzzling, but if you stick to the fundamentals and particularly those probable unreported assets a winner. I think the assumption must be that Tesco & Wallmart/Asda will clean up ultimately and supermarket (bar these two) will decline over time. This is the biggest bear point, but I would have thought there will be time to exit this property packed company sooner or later.

Still terribly overweight on BFP, and not holding sof.

Hi all SOF followers,

I left my screen at 3pm this afternoon, I cannot tell a lie - it was in order to emulate George Washington and cut down a cherry tree. However, in my case the cherry tree was already dead and I had the benefit of a rather powerful Stihl chainsaw.

Unfortunately I don't have any inside knowledge on what is happening but I suspect that Somerfield directors who recently bought must have some inkling that a recent new investor is mopping up large amounts of shares. Given that the price has been held around this level for weeks now, in spite of the company's good results, shows to me that the trades are not unexpected by the market, indeed they are most likely technically outside the general market. The small amount of buying and selling by uninvolved investors make a small secondary market which is being ignored as these high volumes change hands. When you can trade a million shares at a time you are the market for as long as you want to be.

I am fully committed to holding my SOF shares for quite a long time and have recently topped up in spite of the pain felt by the fall from 172p (where you may remember there were similar high volumes on a daily basis).

Interesting times indeed !

Definately Kingdwg. You have to give credit to anyone who sold BFP on the results at 92p as they (if they were lucky) have bought back at 80p, however, I refuse to take a loss on any supermarket after losing money on both Somerfield and BFP the first time around. BFP and SOF are both winners (OVERALL) esp Somerfield.

While I see sitting on a paper loss on any stock a personal failure I expect to turn it around.

This sort of movement of stock should prompt a RNS. 1% is 5 million and more than that have changed.

Yeah, quite so kingy! But why have they suddenly decided to realign today instead of spreading it out a bit to make it less noticeable? Something's cooking one way or another, surely?

See my post above yours ERIC, someone is manouvring. edit: though I see there's been 2 more crosses since my post plus 7,800,000 that I can't tie up but if it was a straight trade the price would be through the roof I'm sure.

Kingy - have you any idea as to the reason for exceptionally high volume today? How 'bout you faxxer? Now at 15M!!
Not currently holding any retail stocks with the exception of WLW and that needs to go soon. Happy to be on the sidelines and interesting to see what is going to happen with both BFP and SOF.

Flatty.

edit: correction now at 21M. Could this be what you have been waiting for boys? I feel it's gonna blow soon. Good luck all still holding.

Big volume for so early in the session today and loads of AT trades. Is it that time in the month again where +10's, +20's or whatever expire?

Flatty.
