i.e. buying in, going long and reaping the rewards...

Most of the regular posters here have adopted this strategy.

"Here's hoping investors are better able to understand the potential here on first glance."

"You're better off switching off for 6 months with this one..."

A mixed message, ntd ?

You're better off switching off for 6 months with this one, until we get deeper in to Fauro and Guadalcanal.

Still here and still hoping and holding for the recovery. Likewise UEN, still got high hopes for that one out of the two. Its very cheap at the moment and good prospects on much higher production this year (good rns out)and the $37m ish loan being repaid to it very soon. I will be happy with a modest 20% return out of the two so I can pack this stressful lark in.

ntd303, I read this board every day. My opinion of SOLG has not changed.

The way I look at it there's an enormous Carlin style deposit in Australia, a JV that Newmont seem enormously keen to develop as fast as they can and the Fauro drilling showing exactly the geology the company expected.

Any one of these could be worth pounds per share. If all 3 come good then...well....I don't want to be accused of ramping.

And then of course you have a rising gold price and a global debt problem which can only be solved either by default or printing money, both of which will send gold into the stratosphere.

I expect gold stocks to do a dotcom before we're finished. I just hope SOLG isn't bought out early.

Absolutely, if the fundamentals and prospects haven't changed one should be buying when the herd is selling. As the old saying goes "The stock market is simply the transfer of wealth from the impatient to the patient".

That's why the game is to wait them out and buy on the dips providing you are convinced of the fundamentals/management. Easy money that way but unfortunately people tend to dump at a loss when a share is going down whilst the fundamentals remain the same. only the smart ones make money in this game.

Why won't it rise? How could it given the sector-shorting that has been going on for months now?

But soon to end in grand style... enjoy:

Embry - I'm Amazed Hedge Funds are Short Mining Shares!

"..With gold at new all-time highs and silver at multi-decade highs, today King World News interviewed John Embry, Chief Investment Strategist at Sprott Asset Management. John Hathaway commented in his KWN interview, "I think these hedged funds (which are short mining shares) are going to get roasted." When asked about Hathaway's comments Embry replied, "I'm amazed that these guys would be short. I think these guys are bright guys, but I don't know what they're looking at. Why anyone would be short gold shares in the current environment is beyond my comprehension..."

"..As the hedge funds move to cover their shorts in the mining shares, some of the moves will be breathtaking as many of these smaller quality producers and explorers go from dramatic undervaluation to overvaluation. This is all just part of a cycle. Definitely look for the mining shares to outperform the metals as this hedge is unwound..."

Morning all. Still here, still holding, still happy. I've not posted much because there's not been much to say. The sector has taken a bit of a caning of late which is just one of those things and I didn't really want to get involved in the 'why won't this rise' chatter. If the good news keeps coming it's only a matter of time before we ping north and undergo multiple re-ratings.

Jonny, I've decided to keep my portfolio to uber politically stable countries. I have a very large chunk of GGP and a lesser lump of SRES.

dizzylizzy2,

Exactly my point. Patience is all that is required with this share for the next few years, hence my reference to AAZ.
