09/5/2002 17:16 | Ok,Ok...I give in,I give in...now,can we move on????????? | cwa1
09/5/2002 16:55 | quoted to your broker, yes? but offered better to other brokers? | rcturner2
09/5/2002 16:20 | RCT Again,I am aware of that. To the best of my knowledge there are ONLY two market makers in SLM...both of whom quoted :-) Anyway,I think it's probably time to move on to more interesting things for all the others on the board, don't you think? | cwa1
09/5/2002 14:03 | But it depends who your broker is!!! MMs don't deal the same with all brokers. | rcturner2
09/5/2002 13:38 | RCT Yes I understand that,as have I in the past...but at that particular point in time they were not prepared to sell any more than 1000 electronically to anyone at all.Period. Both market makers were contacted at the time and neither would deal in 5k for less than 79p. Hope that clears it up. | cwa1
09/5/2002 10:10 | Slm is looking good in run up to results. i am hoping to acquire a further 20,000 shares and will do so on any weakness. CWA1 I agree with Stew James. try negotiating with the MMs first. if not then try buying in smaller quantities...i think you are allowed 2000 shares in electronic transaction. Do not fall prey into their hands. i know this sounds schizophrenic but with only 2 MMs controlling SLM's price, they can easily manipulate the price. Previously when I had to buy above normal market rate, they moved the price the following day quite violently against me after my purchase. If my purchase had been a speculative punt, I might have caved in to sell at a loss. | money loser
09/5/2002 09:33 | CWA1 (and others), why not split the purchases into bite sized pieces that can be done automatically over the internet? OK, you'll have to pay the fixed commission a couple of times but that's got to be better than being quoted 79p(!) | stewjames
09/5/2002 08:25 | I bought 3335 through an online trade with no problems. | rcturner2
09/5/2002 08:08 | fox but I assure you the major part of the rise happened as I was on the phone to my broker trying to pick up a measly 5000 shares ;-) | cwa1
09/5/2002 07:57 | Hi all Not read the times, but on citywire newspaper section 'hopes of higher profits forecast'. Sounds like good news to me. Will have to wait and see. | foxster69
09/5/2002 07:55 | Hi Mick and Fox I can not tell a lie...it was I who lifted the price yesterday :-) I was on to my broker asking to buy just under 5000 when the price was 74-76.They put it to the market. The first mm quoted 79p,whom I promptly suggested should think again...the second wouldn't even give a sensible quote at all :-( At which point the price went to 75-79,which I've noticed happens to me a lot when I try and pick up a line in very illiquid stocks.....you just can't beat those horrible, nasty mm's.I'm quite sure, also, that they will be difficult to shift if I want to get rid of them in a hurry or the mm's are stuffed with stock.... So Mick, yes,it can be difficult to buy and sell in size.Though I have to say I picked up about 15,000 at between 71 and 72 when the price dipped back last week in several tranches,so it can be done. You pays your money.... HTH CWA | cwa1
08/5/2002 23:47 | I bought 4750 via idealing a few days ago at 74.75. I had no problem. | foxster69
08/5/2002 23:04 | Must admit I've been tempted by Slimma for the last few months and may be worth a dabble before next weeks results. CW You mentioned its difficult to trade more than 2500, would probably fancy 3-4000, would this be a problem? Mick | mickinvest
08/5/2002 20:45 | SLm now starting to tick up. In anticipation of results? Not many buys today. Any ideas? | foxster69
01/5/2002 08:38 | Nah, you beat me to it. I was too "greedy", waiting for a lower price. Changed my mind about the big seller. Looking back at the chart there are a number of steep drops and climbs on similar volume. And thinking about it, there's been a few similar days (in both directions) since I've been holding without a big trade to explain it later. Quite possible there's no seller after all. | stewjames
01/5/2002 08:36 | Stew-you go for a top up? I decided to...though they would only sell blocks of 2500 on the net... Hope this is not a market makers fleecing day and I've just walked into it...time will tell I suppose. Wonder how many the seller has,if that is the reason for weakness. | cwa1
01/5/2002 08:28 | SJ - also own PPH. Forgot about them! | rcturner2
01/5/2002 00:59 | CWA1, just a mental block I find it difficult to overcome. Nothing has changed except the date since I bought around these prices originally so there's not really a compelling reason to buy more. I'm likely to be ready at the button on results day. Nothing ventured, nothing gained...but then nothing lost either! | stewjames
01/5/2002 00:57 | rcturner2, currently holding AON,BBC,CDY,DSN,GGI, As you can see, smallcap, illiquid and asset backed is very much my style! How about you? | stewjames
01/5/2002 00:55 | Stew "the price rose up a few pennies again whilst I was mulling it over" Oops sorry ;-) I think, unless we hear of any negative news,I could do with some more if price drops back....it looks good on fundies. Why don't you like averaging up...if the story is good and the market likes the stock then why not? RCT....60p sounds like a good price for Slimma to me....:-) Cheers anyway | cwa1
01/5/2002 00:50 | SJ - just out of interest what stocks do you hold? | rcturner2
01/5/2002 00:44 | CWA, well done! Was considering topping up again but the price rose up a few pennies again whilst I was mulling it over. I have a bit of a phobia against averaging up! | stewjames
01/5/2002 00:42 | CWA I have watched this for a while, and was lucky to get in at 60p recently. It seems to rise and fall with not alot of reason behind it, but the overall trend is up, and the fundamentals are very strong. | rcturner2
01/5/2002 00:19 | Hi all Hmmmm......... Had my eye on this one for ages for a chance to get in cheap, which seems to be have been presented this morning.... Looks undervalued at this price giving a forward p/e of just over 5 for '03 and yield of about 8%,again for '03,based on WH Ireland's figures.... Too good to resist. The only hope is that the market doesn't know something nasty and has just had one of its periodic "bouts of madness". Ah well, fingers crossed :-) | cwa1
30/4/2002 17:03 | was just thinking that myself I'll maybe add a few first thing unless something bad transpires.... first come first served ;-) trade not announced yet if it is that | cwa1 |
