I take it that the emissions will be captured. So quite a clean burn

I don’t think you understand the power station position it will help the environment do your research. And pre pair to lose your money this is only going one way now and that is up

I opened a Short position today because I don't approve of burning plastics, and I think a placing is due within the next 6 months for capex.

Some much needed news indeed!

If we finally get uskmouth up and running then we could be well away. The very high number of global coal powered plants that would/could be candidates for this sort of conversion alone surely provides a near endless stream of potential new projects for Simec?

Add in the slowly but improving tidal capacity and we could actually get the 'diversified energy company of scale' they often harp on about!

Great set of news. Most significant for me was mention of terms and conditions being met to satisfy project finance. The equitix tie up had gone very very quiet and is crucial to the whole thing. GHR looks like a great result for Atlantis. As far as I can see they are being given a profitable business without any debt for £1. I would like to know who the investor was who bought up the operating assets and (presumably) the debt that came with it but I guess that's Simec energy's business.

SIMEC Atlantis Energy signs equipment and services supply contract with Kyuden Mirai Energy

SIMEC Atlantis Energy Limited ("Atlantis"), is delighted to announced that it has signed a contract to supply tidal generation equipment and offshore construction services to Japan's Kyuden Mirai Energy ("KME") for a demonstration project in Japan. The project, located in the straits of Naru Island within the southern Japanese Goto island chain, has a total budget of 1,800mYen. The project will seek to capitalise on Japan's wealth of tidal resources which are some of the best in the world. The prefecture of Nagasaki has over 900 islands alone located in tidal rich waters.

On BBC. News feed today. Old news, but any media right now is good to get this thing moving upwards. Alderney could have 'entirely renewable' power by 2022 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-guernsey-50183385

Good shout and looks promising - downside is timescales I guess which for Simec seems to be their issue at the moment, they need to get a few things 'generating' profits which could provide some good momentum then.

Just don't get why tidal power isn't attracting more interest and investment, particularly in the UK with such a large potential resource! Swansea tidal bay case and point! With the need to decarbonise we could and should have wind, solar and tidal combining and doing so much more.

Thanks for sharing the link.

Been some tumble weed blowing through this thread for a while and after a prolonged slide for months, we've got a little movement up!

Anyone with ideas on who/whats driving the positive tick up?

Alderney was good news but I think there is a lot of understandable skepticism about whether the company will survive long enough to get any more turbines in the water. It's clear they still need government support to be able to do this. The data centre news was shrugged off as well probably for similar reasons. It's a great idea and looks like a viable project but it's probably in the 'believe it when I see it' category. If it had come alongside a signed PPA with google or Amazon it would have been a whole other story. Progress at Uksmouth is still the key to this one. Project Stroma this year might help but it's hard to see where the funding will come for that so Im expecting that to be delayed until 2020.

Alderney is interesting, I read a report on making Sark completely renewable, the cost of electricity on these islands is huge - 66p instead of the 12p I pay here in England.

They'll need batteries to smooth the generation out, Redt was suggested for Sark. I hope it works out, this kind of thing is why I invested in the first place.

Market still asleep - HoT signed to provide electricity to the whole island, Hugh project! The heads of terms envisage that AEL and Normandie Hydroliennes will seek to enter into a 25-year power purchase agreement under which AEL would purchase a minimum of 5GWh of electricity per year from Normandie Hydroliennes at a fixed price. This is sufficient to meet the entire current energy demand of the island. Atlantis is assessing options to ensure that the island's electricity needs can be satisfied even during the short periods of slack tide when the tidal turbines will not be generating power. Additionally, Atlantis and AEL intend to work together to identify opportunities to further decarbonise Alderney and create an environment for sustainable economic growth on the island.Whilst there are no seabed development rights associated with this electricity supply agreement, it is hoped that by initially providing the island with sufficient tidal power to satisfy the majority of domestic use, this project may be a precursor to a larger scale array that the island of Alderney can develop in its territorial waters to export power to both the UK and Europe.Ti

RNS "Tim Cornelius, CEO of SIMEC Atlantis, commented:"We are absolutely delighted to secure AEL as a customer for electricity generated from the powerful waters of the Raz Blanchard. This is the first, important step in unlocking the vast economic potential of the tidal flows around the Channel Islands and it has taken the forward-thinking management of AEL to make this happen. We subscribe to their vision of not only seeking to provide security of supply for the island, but also using this project as a model for other island communities seeking to decarbonise and provide new opportunities for economic resilience.Working with our project partners in France and making use of all of the experience garnered from operating the world's largest tidal array in Scotland, we hope to make Alderney a flagship example of the Blue Economy at work. This will involve harnessing the vast power of the ocean in an environmentally responsible way in partnership with the local community. We hope that this project will be a blue print for other island nations around the world in due course"

Im expecting it to slip but in the 15 July update they were still saying on track to be online 'by 2021' this contradicts what was in the abundance prospectus where they said generation will start 'in 2021'. I dont see how 2020 is possible given they have previously said conversion work will take 18 months. Early 2022 is probably realistic. Financial close is the really big milestone both for the share price and the company as a whole and that is due some point next year, maybe Q3. They will need to secure some major institutional funding for this - fiddling around with crowdsourcing isn't going to cut it - and the Equitix involvement is important. There wasn't any mention of Equitix in the last operational update or the abundance prospectus which was a bit of a red flag for me. If they cant come up with financing they may struggle to survive but I would expect Gupta to step in before that happens.

Is Uksmouth coming online in 2020? Or is it fake promises again?
