29/4/2008 08:58 | "You don't mean Touchdown or some other Travel Industry related site do you?" Well deduced, take_that! Not Touchdown, but similar. | drewz
29/4/2008 08:46 | Go on drewz do spill ; ) You don't mean Touchdown or some other Travel Industry related site do you? | take_that
29/4/2008 08:43 | £150,000/return trip! That's an 85.7% load capacity on your average figures and doesn't take into account any promotions or discounted tickets. Are you sure GeneralMac2? If so, where have these figures been published? We desperately need hard facts to lift and install confidence that the business model is working. L Hunt seems to be very quiet at the moment. Would really like to see him in the media promoting the brand, even if it was to complain about the BAA monopoly like many of the other airlines. Look at Stelios, at one point he was as recognisable as an Orannge coloured aircraft. That promoting of an underdog challenging the big boys to a show down on prices was exactly what helped Easy establish itself in the market. EOS and Maxjet didn't capitalise on this and are now no more. SilverJet really need to pull the stops out if they are to succeed. They can't afford not to.... | take_that
28/4/2008 21:07 | They are offering seats at £600 per round trip - if you know where to look! | drewz
28/4/2008 20:39 | They are now charging approx. £1750 a round trip compared to £4600 BA and Virgin. Should achieve over £150,000 per return trip. | generalmac2
28/4/2008 20:32 | The 767 that Silverjet takes about £44,000 of jet fuel to do newark and back. They have a lot of other costs which may very roughly be £40,000. They also have general overheads that must be spread over the 3 planes like interest on the loan. A big problem is the real income is a secret until the accounts or a trading statement tell us. What does seem to have happened is they are up for sale but no buyiers have come public. My view is they are doomed and eos going under just help them last a few weeks extra. | i am myself2
28/4/2008 19:47 | No problems for me Luke, maybe they've got you on filter ... | reefseeker
28/4/2008 19:16 | Is it just me or are others having difficulty accessing silverjet website? | stluke
28/4/2008 14:19 | How much does it cost in oil to fly the Atlantic? How much has oil gone up in the last six month? What is the actual increas in costs to the airline in fuel? Anybody know? If a JUMBO flying to Bangkok has its 10 or so first class seats full the whole of the rest of the passengers are profit, including amortisation and crew costs. | mrtravels
28/4/2008 14:07 | Lots of flights are now sold out or nearly full for the coming week so short term EOS demise has been good for SIL, whether in the long term they can retain these passengers we have yet to see, without further funding the long term may never happen but if and its a big if they can secure the extra finance with competitors in the premium only sector now all gone they could come out of this very well there load factors will be very high and im sure there will be room to raise prices and still be significantly cheaper than the likes of BA, Virgin, AA etc, interesting times ahead remain. | stluke

27/4/2008 19:18 | bust by sept imo, another danair | rcp8
27/4/2008 19:15 | any perks with the shares? | elephants drunk
27/4/2008 18:53 | This leaves SIL as the only low cost, all business class transatlantic airline; surely they are more attractive to potential investors as a monopoly?? | chris pee
27/4/2008 11:35 | Silver jet said they will accept Eos tickets subject to them been above a certain price and seats been available. Eos news release sais it is not due to financial reasons that they have filed for bancrupsy as they have sufficent funding. | istanbully
27/4/2008 09:52 | EOS gone under. Silverjet is next in my view. Airlines are giving big discounts to fill seats and almost every airline is going to be loss making for a few years. A 1980s 767 cannot be profitable today or next year. | i am myself2
25/4/2008 19:14 | At $115 a barrel i admit SIL are going to find it very difficult without a further cash injection to see them through but I am myself2 at $50 it was and is not a poor business model, they would now be cashflow positive and at a operating level be profitable i think your the only person who could say otherwise, at the current level of oil there not a million miles from that but at $50 come on! | stluke
25/4/2008 18:11 | The big US carriers are going to shrink by 10-20% this next year. The market is going to be awash with old 767s. Anyone with a brain and money would let SIL go under and then buy the assets without the debt or shareholders to worry about. Even banks are finding it hard to rasie cash so an airline that may lose £30m is doomed in my view. It is a dead man walking. why is it still flying and taking fares? The buisness model was poor when oil was $50/barrel, credit was easy and departure tax was £20. | i am myself2 |
