I travelled from Newark to Luton on 01-Apr. Couldn't fault the service. The staff were truly excellent. Hope they manage to stay afloat as it is how air travel use to be and how it should be.

GeneralMac - I have never heard of people who did not like getting a £2000 type of service for £1000. The problem is purely that it costs far too much to provide the service to be viable. I pride myself in being accurate in my data and you can look at the www.flysilverjet.com website to see how bad the service is today. There is no need to make things up. They have 3 quite old 767s and when 1 goes tech then the flying programme becomes a mess.

You can see from the web how they are offereing cheap deals and people on this board who would like to fly with them need 20%-50% off to make it viable. I could open a pub selling beer at £1/pint It would be a great sucess until I run out of money.

GeneralMac2 if you go on airlinequality.com you can get independent reviews of SJ all very good from what i have seen, unfortunately its not the product that is the problem here its the on going funding and yes there appears to have been some cancellation and delays again today all very unlike SJ.

Everyone has too much capacity and some airlines will go under. Book an offer with an airline that will still be flying when you holiday comes. I am starting to wonder if silverjet will be flying come May.

away for 1 morning and I see new fools are buying without looking at the current flight status.
One of the planes must be broke again as the newark flight has been cancelled and the Dubai flight from Luton took off 15 hours late.

In the US the oil price is $108 and rising.
I would expect the firm should make a statement to the stock exchange in the next few days about the current cash position, the non-arrival of its next planes and if the firm is still a going concern.

They are still dumping seats on the market at heavy discounts. Seaching the web shows up many codes for 20% off or 2 for 1 offers. Silverjet tickets are even on ebay (current bid £210 return all in). Someone even has silverjet share certificates on ebay at £1.20 each!

I should have added that - " there are no check-in queues with SilverJet. "

Maybe they should put that sort of information in their TV ads rather than the ethereal stuff they put out !!!!!

quotation from the article

"First and business-class passengers are thought to account for more than 60 per cent of BA's profits but the worsening economic climate has forced them to cancel travel plans. BA blamed March's fall on an early Easter but aviation sources said that the drop was a direct result of the poor economic environment."

Once the company is pulling in its figures and changes the downwards trend we could sit on a multibagger, I never know why people try to catch a falling knife?

As a few of you have pointed out the discounted seats/higher fuel prices.. Also remember they're pretty old planes and lets hope they don't have to many problems. The tickets are selling out pretty quickly and if you briefly look at the company you might think they are a screaming buy but when you dig deeper we aren't so sure, I would suggest this is one to watch like I said earlier but moving to another point has anyone been on a SJ plane?

Agreed I am myself2 a lot more seats but i do think that is what they are going to do, i personally feel they need to be getting much nearer if not slightly more than 70% load factors at decent yields.

Just a note that fridays evening flight to new york is now also sold out so thats both tomorrows new york flights sold out.

the 65% loadfactor to break even was from the first share issue of Sil when the oil price was between $50 and $60/barrel. They said each return trip to newyork would cost £65K. A analisys worked out that it did cost £135K in the firms first 6 months when they ran 1 plane. The firm said it was going to be £75K when they run 5 planes (the oil price was then between $80-$90/barrel. Oil is now $105/barrel. They need to sell a lot more than 80 extra seats to break even.

Hi Drewz and Jonwig - thanks for the comments and thoughts. It seems to me that the bet on SIL: is whether or not the company has managed to get through 'the death valley curve' of any start up. If the bet is yes - then this is worth a punt, if no then pretty much worthless.

Hence the thoughts on the very much assumed back of the envelope calculation, that potentially 65% is around the breakeven load factor, and 80 extra revenue seats a month equate to 'profit' of 10% of mktcap(DYOR) - I am not a holder.

Hence also the fact that at the moment i am a waiter and watcher, and if the 80 extra revenue seats a month are being generated and the revenue seats trajectory is upwards(all things being equal and they never are) then this 'punt' becomes more interesting.

Whatever, making these sort of calculations, makes watching more interesting.

Again thanks for all your statements, opinions and thoughts, which is what makes BBs interesting. I now plan to be quiet and watch.

Why is this company being so coy with its numbers? These guys have your money, and as shareholders you are entitled to ask for pretty much anything you want, and as long as they are not in a blackout period, or doing anything that could make you an 'insider', they should be forthcoming!

I would be expecting the worst if I held here, as it sounds like they are hiding something.

I think you are spot on simon i am also watching and waiting the key is the funding for me if they can secure that then it will buy them enough time to turn in a profit which it is clearly working towards.

A lot of interesting comments here. I have been following for well over a year, initially drawn by a very catchy ad I saw in the Economist. I've always liked the idea and the way the company markets itself. But not prepared to take as big a risk as I see with SIL at the moment. As Tlee has said I think the best strategy is to sit in the wings (awful pun) and continue to watch the numbers. IMO the potential upside jump in missing out if and when they published strong numbers and/or profit in the next few months far outweighs the risk of holding suspended shares. If they can turn profitable (and then sustainable) there is multi-bag potential. The key is to continue this upwards trend of good numbers towards a profit.

"Timanglin - post #427 ... you asked some questions about SIL which no-one here had the courtesy to reply to."

What question did he ask, other than should we wait for next month's traffic figures?

The problem with discussions based on 'back of the envelope' calculations are that you are only working with a fraction of the full set of numbers you need to be able to produce meaningful analysis. SIL are being as coy as they possibly can be within regulatory limits with respect to revenue, load factor, costs.

We know they are discounting selectively through the trade to fill seats. We don't know how much.

Nor do we have a clear picture on their operating costs, overheads and marketing spend.

So 'back of the envelope' calculations that 80 extra seats filled per month goes straight to the bottom line are fanciful to say the least.

Got to be some sort of private backer possibly from the middle east drewz? but i admit they will need some further financing maybe thats what there doing now and explains the lack of confirmation regarding additional planes and routes.
