Brent crude average for 2018Q2 is currently $74.14.

Results for Shell's Q2 are going to be superb. If this continues for the next 5 weeks, I'd expect RDSB to hit over £30 before quarter end.

The world has gone mad,so what other things are there that companies do that affect the planet.

What about soya beans, palm oil, timber felling of hardwoods, cattle rearing, mass food production, mining, etc, etc, the only difference of course these countries would not pay a dime to any one if you sued them.

I'm losing the will to live the way the world is going...

....yes but my point was why do they invest in oil companies and then spend their time undermining them?

Looking at today's metrics is just a snapshot in time. Every gambler (I gambled on farming for 30 years and it did not work very well) is different and an assessment on any company is very dependent on your timescale. A day trading view is totally different from a lifetime view (which is my view). A 20% gearing for Shell is important because management said they would initiate a 25 billion USD share buyback programme at that level. As I take a long term view the very long term prospects of the company combined with a trustworthy and capable management and workforce are the factors that interest me the most. Day traders and gamblers with a shorter term view will look for opportunities.

.....I notice the Church of England throwing its weight around on this one. Why do they still invest?

RDSA 4.5971 billion shares x 27 GBP = 124 billion GBP, RDSB 3.7455 billion shares x 28 GBP = 105 billion GBP. 124 billion GBP + 105 billion GBP = 229 billion GBP equity capital.

20 percent gearing may look like this; 60 billion GBP net debt divided by equity capital of 240 billion GBP plus 60 billion GBP net debt which equals 300 billion GBP total capital.

And that would be classic economic cycle completion.

So let's hope that it happens later rather than sooner.

A $60 to $80 range will do fine.
