Electric cars will outsell fossil-fuel powered vehicles within two decades as battery prices plunge, turning the global auto industry upside down and signalling economic turmoil for oil-exporting countries.

The Bloomberg New Energy Finance forecast says adoption of emission-free vehicles will happen more quickly than previously estimated because the cost of building cars is falling so fast. The seismic shift will see cars with a plug account for a third of the global auto fleet by 2040 and displace about 8 million barrels a day of oil production—more than the 7 million barrels Saudi Arabia exports today.

“This is economics, pure and simple economics,” BNEF’s lead advanced-transportation analyst Colin McKerracher said before forecasts were published on Thursday. “Lithium-ion battery prices are going to come down sooner and faster than most other people expect.”

Just don't drive one of those ev,s out in the outback as you wont come back.....

buywell you will be an old man before ev,s have a decent share of the vehicle market.

Why is the largest battery in the world being built in oz instead of the usa where every thing is bigger????

Guess who has been buying Electricity Generation companies in the USA of late

Electricity is going to be the new OIL

The Lithium-ion battery is the new petrol/diesel tank

Here's my prediction for the future: Shorters will continue to ramp their scare stories until the cows come home. And they'll claim that those cows will be all-electric by 2045. Or 9pm at the very latest. :)

Buywell don't you remember tomorrows world which prophesized that by now hardly anybody would have to work and robots would be doing all the work.

I think it will be a long time before oil runs out of its usefullness as it is used every where and without it the oil producing countries will go bankrupt,so no market for your electric cars among many other goods.

Bear in mind that there is 80lbs of copper in every electric car so I gather so maybe you should buy miners.

It will be a slow growth to electric vehicles as they are not cheap and the power needed to power them is totally beyond what we produce now as electricity...

I am waiting for a 'world changing event' to hit global share prices.

Tesla is on my list for when it happens

Till then I only look at special situations in smaller caps but will go into big caps when the rug gets pulled

That reads like an advert for Tesla shares. May be a buying opportunity for you.

I meant Trump won't let Tesla get sold to a foreign nation eg China

Tesla has designs on getting into provision of both domestic electricity supply with battery backup by Lithium-ion batteries which he has built a huge manufacturing facility in Utah

Tesla can also supply backup for whole electricity generation use

New bigger, better , more efficient batteries are coming to market fast and the price of them has been falling fast also ... and is expected to fall further as more suppliers get involved.

That streak has ended. The rig count dropped from 758 to 756 yesterday.

Oil Is Snapping Back After Big Collapse
Fri, 30th Jun 2017 14:10

OTTAWA (Alliance News) - Crude oil futures continue to rally Friday and are poised for the best week in more than a month amid evidence of OPEC's determination to re-balance the global oil market.

The cartel is in a tug of war with the US and Canada vis a vis oil production. OPEC has instituted supply quotas for most of its members, while non-OPEC output has soared and shows no sign of abating.

In fact, Goldman Sachs sees a three-month average of USD47.50 per barrel for WTI crude, down from a previous estimate of USD55.00 a barrel. Analysts expect prices will be "cyclically bullish within a structurally bearish framework."

"The steady increase in the US rig count and the six month drilling to production lag now imply that US production will be growing strongly by the end of the OPEC deal," they wrote.

Crude oil is poised for its worst quarter since 2015, having dropped about 11% since March. Prices touched their lowest in 10 months last week.

But traders are now betting that June's swoon was overdone.

WTI light sweet crude oil was up 30 cents at USD45.23, set for a seventh straight gain.

Baker Hughest releases its US rig count data this afternoon. Drillers have added rigs 22 weeks in a row, the longest streak ever.

I've looked at the share price once in the last month. That was only to log in and see my Div re-invested.Can sleep easy with this one.In 10 years + i'll start taking the divs in cash and use it to splash out on several holidays per year.Well that's the idea anyway lol.

Added @2069 this morning; in view of recent dip I opted to manually re-invest recent dividend rather than await broker's automatic process on 11th of following month.

Just bought some back at 2066 - must hold these instead of being tempted to trade them out for a quick 5 -10%.

Hold for 6 years and re-investing dividends provides a 50% increase in 6 years (providing dividend is maintained and subject to currency rates).
