Thousands of Groningen gas opponents demand earthquake damage compensation

An estimated eight to ten thousand people in Groningen took part in a torchlight procession against gas extraction in the province.

The municipality was satisfied with the protest, which drew attention to the people living in the earthquake area.

The protest was organized in response to the Cabinet's decision to double gas production.

Protesters were also upset at the poor organization of subsidies for homeowners to strengthen their homes and make them more sustainable.

On Monday, thousands of people waited online for hours to apply for a 10,000 euro subsidy which critics said was too little compensation. On Friday, the Cabinet announced they would allocate an additional 250 million euros to the scheme.

The demonstration began at 8 p.m. at the Vismarket and ended there as well. Protesters carried signs and banners with "enough is enough" and "Peat fires are unquenchable. Respect is priceless." Along the route, tractors honked their horns in support of the demonstrators.

According to the organization, it is time for the Cabinet to take the situation in Groningen seriously. "We have to endure a lot as Groningers, but we also belong to the Netherlands. We want safety and compensation in return," organizer Chris Garrit said.

Groninger Soil Movement (GBB), the Groninger Gasberaard, former night mayor Chris Carrit and share price MP Sandra Beckerman organized the protest under the slogan "Respect for Groningen." The crowd, led by actor Marcel Hensema chanted "respect for Groningen, respect for Grunn."

In 2018, around 10,000 people attended a similar protest against gas extraction.

It may be the biggest, but it also happens to be one of the most expensive sources of electricity in the world. The contract price for Hornsea is £162.47/MWh, which under CfD is a guaranteed price, which will be index linked for 15 years. In short, a licence to print money!Appalling Details here --- Daily Telegraph

John Redwood@johnredwoodElectricity demand low yet we still need to run the remaining coal power stations as there is little wind. Will the government at least now keep those coal stations until they have put in some more reliable power for when the wind does not blow

John Redwood@johnredwoodWind is only managing 1% of our electricity demand today. Once again we are burning all the gas we can and relying on more imports. Government must put more reliable power capacity in place as we cannot rely on imports from energy short Europe.

Green = Con
Just one further, albeit off topic post. If one is intending to green ones energy supply, might I suggest investing the £15k PV array capital in one of the renewable energy investment trusts? Green energy, pretty reliable dividends to pay your energy bill and probable capital appreciation thrown in. I don't see non-subsidised domestic PV systems competing with that over 20 to 25 years.

All heading in the right direction - bound to be some profit taking here and there but this time i think it may result in a few percent dip rather than ten percent or so - momentum seems strong and sentiment getting better all the time.
A lot of new world equities seem to be turning downwards with a move to more traditional companies that actually make money/produce something.
Thinking of revising my own estimates upwards for RDSB & BP as i still think that we will rise into results due in early feb,
Had a half hour with IR on Wednesday and am actually persuaded now into why BB's are possibly actually the right thing to do over special dividends or debt reduction while share price is where it is
Reading between the lines the overriding impression i got was that they are underplaying things and lowering expectations but will (this time) outperform.

That may well be the case now but was certainly not a decade ago. Early adopters are getting paid approx 58p per kwh generated and 5p per kwh exported, index linked to inflation, for another 15 years or so. Those systems will easily pay for themselves. Probably at least twice over.
would you like to see solar panels on a cottage or farmhouse

Do they have antiqued aolar panelled roof tiles yet

the grumpy old men
? I think you're maybe talking about leasing your roofs pace to a 3rd party. In that case you're right and they can be a negative when comes to selling a house. If you own the panels outright then it's a plus for the next buyer as they simply take over the contract from you.
would certainly not sign up for a long term solar contract which might affect the ability to easily sell my house
