Positive AGM statement today - nicely in line to date, and to say at this stage that the rest of the year is viewed "very positively" is rather encouraging:

"The Group is trading in line with our expectations and the outlook for the year is unchanged. We are encouraged by the pace of the integration of Applied Thermal Control and the Board views the current financial year very positively."

AGM next week, we don't normally get an update, so I'm sure a few of us attending will relay our thoughts/impressions.

Surprising to see the rise here stalled, particularly given the optimism and bullish outlook in JDG's recent results which presumably translates across SDI's sector.

With 1.9p EPS forecast this year and 2.2p EPS for next year, SDI is now on a single-digit P/E.

And that's without the impact of any further acquisitions - which are extremely likely.

It does seem a surprising hike dowm. Like rivaldo, I've bought a few more.

I'll be at the AGM on 26th to see what they have to say.

A new development

One which increases the scope/use of ProReveal into another area of surgical instrumentation residual protein detection testing as required under UK Department of Health updated HTM01:01 guidelines of July 2016.

The use of endoscopes within the NHS is increasing ... so this is good to hear:
Endoscopy is a nonsurgical procedure used to examine a person's digestive tract.

ProReveal accessories under development

We are finalising the development of a PCD (Process Challenge Device) and a surrogate testing device for testing the channels of flexible endoscopes.

My read of this is that the DoH realizes that other previous instructions such as

Must now be viewed in the light of the updated HTM01:01 : namely

SSDs should no longer rely on elution or swabbing to detect residual protein on an instrument. The method should be validated as being able to detect protein equivalent to ≤5 μg of BSA in situ on the surface of an instrument. Commercial technologies that can detect the 5 μg limit in situ are being developed (see ACDP- TSE’s Annex C). Methods that do not have protein as their target, such as ATP assays, cannot be used as a substitute for residual protein detection.

It is a comfort to know that ProReveal is currently the only Protein Detection System that complies with the new protein detection requirements of the new HTM01:01.

I would like to deduce from the above that SDI are finalising the development of a PCD (Process Challenge Device) and a surrogate testing device for testing the channels of flexible endoscopes at the request of the DoH/ the Regional Health Board and 10 NHS SSD's that are now currently using ProReveal.

Presumably they are finding quite a number of positive results indicating further use of ProReveal is needed.

I still think that the other 40 NHS SSD's that make up the 50 NHS SSD's involved in Neurosurgery and Eye surgery will place an order for ProReveal units before the year end.

These new accessories are an exciting development I feel

I expect to hear more about the PCD ( Process Challenge Device ) in due course.

Syngene

Syngene develops and manufactures systems and software for analysing gels and blots. The market for image analysers is mature and Syngene continues to experience pricing competition. To address this need in 2016, Syngene introduced NuGenius, a new, entry level imager, which uses a Raspberry Pi processor. This product is now selling well worldwide.

To address the North American market specifically, Syngene is developing the G:BOX mini, a new competitively priced small foot print version of its popular G:BOX. This system includes the option to add high specification LED lighting for imaging performance, yet its smaller darkroom has a lower build cost making this a competitively priced high-end imager.

New out today

Syngene introduces G:BOX mini multi-application gel imaging system

Syngene introduces G:BOX mini multi-application imaging system - fast, high performance gel and blot imaging in one compact system.

Cambridge, UK: Syngene, a world-leading manufacturer of image analysis solutions, today introduced the G:BOX mini, a compact, upgradable, multi-application system for all types of gel and Western blot imaging. Featuring a motorized stage, high performance camera and the option to add HI-LED lighting, this system is an ideal solution for laboratories that need application flexibility without compromising on the accuracy of results.

Building on the technology of the popular G:BOX range, the G:BOX mini with its high performance 0.95 lens, 6 or 9-megapixel camera, can image and resolve close bands or spots even on complex 2D gels. Combining a unique motorized stage and super-cooled camera, the G:BOX mini, unlike many other imaging systems, generates true-to-life, low-noise optical images not just digitally enhanced ones. These features make the G:BOX mini a compact powerhouse and means scientists will not require separate systems for accurately imaging chemiluminescent Westerns, fluorescent and stain-free gels, visible fluorescent or IR Western blots.

With the option to add high intensity blue, green, red and infra-red HI-LEDS that are up to 200 times brighter than standard LEDs, the new G:BOX mini guarantees faster exposure times than most compact CCD-based systems. The application-driven GeneSys software which controls the G:BOX mini makes it quick and simple for researchers to set-up their optimum filter and lighting combinations to image multiplexed fluorescent and IR dyes, DNA and stain-free protein gels. The software also auto-calibrates to each gel or blot’s size, ensuring great images every time.

The compact G:BOX mini is connected to an external PC and printer offering superior performance and flexibility compared to tablet based imagers, allowing scientists to run the GeneSys touch screen controls on a large screen, store a huge number of images and rapidly print publication quality pictures.

To find out more about the new G:BOX mini, please click this link now:

“The trend in image analysis is for small footprint equipment that can rapidly generate high quality, chemi, fluorescence, colorimetric and now stain-free gel images,” explains Dr Martin Biggs, Sales Manager at Syngene, “We’re excited to introduce our G:BOX mini because this system perfectly fits that need. We’ve combined so much cutting-edge, easily upgradable technology into this compact imager that scientists can accurately analyse simple gel docs right through to multiplexed fluorescence applications, now and in the future, using just one clever system.”

Good to see the price tick up by a full 1p on a mere £6k buy at 25.64p. Not much stock around?

I'm busy on the afternoon of the 26th September, so Cambridge for the AGM at 11.00 would be a bit too tight. Get some good info, hastings and Garbetklb :o))

Re the acquisition last week of Applied Thermal Control, ATC

Applied Thermal Control manufacture and supply chillers worldwide. With an established reputation for precision cooling in the scientific instrument support markets (electron microscopes, X-ray diffraction, ICPMS etc.), semiconductor process, ophthalmic lens manufacturing equipment, machine tool, and more recently the chillers of choice for commercial digital printing and laser lithography markets globally.

The global market size of chillers is estimated to reach USD 10.84 Billion by 2021 at a CAGR of 4.24%.

Industries, such as chemicals & petrochemicals, food & beverages, plastics, medical & pharmaceutical, rubber, and others use chillers.Types of chillers include screw, scroll, centrifugal, absorption, reciprocating and re-circulating. Global markets include , Asia-Pacific, Europe, North America, the Middle East & Africa, and Latin America.

The chillers market is driven by growing government focus on energy conservation that further demands for the energy-efficient cooling solutions.

Applications for Applied Thermal Control Chillers

ATC manufactured chillers, coolers and heat exchangers are used to control the thermal environment within a wide variety of applications, where air can not cool the system quickly enough. Cooling is required to either prevent damage to components, reduce distortion in processes, improve repeatability and stability in analytical analysis or remove heat from chemical reactions. Although historically these have tended to be cooled with mains tap water, the prohibitive cost of water together with the environmental impact of waste water have made chillers more desirable. ATC offers compact, economical and versatile products, together with excellent service and technical back up, to satisfy these markets.

Amazing really. We have:

- an earnings-enhancing acquisition
- director share buying
- cheap fundamentals

Yet you can currently buy shares at 26p - cheaper than the directors paid.

I assume there's a seller. I wouldn't have thought their shares will be available for too long.
