07/10/2022 10:57 | RS Group: ‘Cheap for quality growth’, says Liberum Electrical products distributor RS Group (RS1), formerly Electrocomponents, is cheap for a quality growth stock, according to Liberum Analyst Sanjay Vidyarthi retained his ‘buy’ recommendation and raised the target price from £14.60 to £14.70 on the stock, which was trading up 1% at £10.16 on Thursday afternoon. ‘RS continues to outperform, taking market share and leveraging its sales growth to drive margin expansion,’ he said. ‘We see this as a function of investment in people and infrastructure in recent years.’ He said the group’s ‘repair and maintenance focus makes it more defensive than its exposure to industrial markets might suggest’. Vidyarthi expects it to take market share with its ‘disruptive, omni-channel model’. Reflecting the ‘strong first half’, he raised profit-before-tax estimates for the current year by 3% with ‘cautious assumptions for the second half’. On the valuation, he said the current year price-to-earnings ratio of 16.1x is ‘cheap for quality growth’. citywire.com | philanderer

24/8/2022 09:36 | Throgmorton backs RS Group for growth Throgmorton (THRG) manager Dan Whitestone says RS Group (RS1) reached an unsustainably low valuation as the stock has been dragged down by a broader slowdown. The electrical component distributor, formerly known as Electrocomponents, is the top holding in Whitestone’s Throgmorton investment trust, making up 3.6% of the £662m portfolio. Despite strong updates earlier in the year, the stock ‘has continued to fall on broader concerns of an economic slowdown and the market’s desire to de-rate growth companies’. ‘While not immune to an economic downturn, we think RS Group is well positioned both strategically and financially to continue to win market share in the US and we believe those share gains can accelerate, so that has the potential to create significant shareholder value in the coming quarters and years,’ said Whitestone. The company released another positive update in July, which this time caused the shares to rebound. Whitestone said the reason this was treated differently was the magnitude of previous spare falls ‘despite ongoing positive revisions to forecasts resetting the valuation to a level we thought unsustainable’ Shares in RS Group closed down 1.2% at £11.07 on Tuesday, having continued to rebound during August. citywire.com | philanderer

15/8/2022 10:16 | (Sharecast News) - RS Group - formerly Electrocomponents - surged on Monday after The Times reported over the weekend that it could be the subject of a takeover bid. The Times pointed to speculation of a possible £15 a share bid, which is a significant premium to the present share price and above the £12.35 high it hit last November before worries about a recession kicked in. The latest talk is of instructions going out to advisers to prepare to people the barricades in the event of unwelcome tanks being parked on RS Group's lawns, The Times said. | philanderer

10/8/2022 12:24 | (Alliance News) - RS Group PLC on Wednesday said it has agreed to buy Risoul y Cia SA de CV for a cash consideration of USD275 million on a cash-free and debt-free basis. Risoul is a family-owned distributor of industrial and automation product and service solutions in Mexico. The FTSE-100 industrial and electronic products distributor, formerly known as Electrocomponents, said the deal "significantly strengthens" its position in Mexico, and it is expected to deliver significant revenue synergies. "We are excited about deepening our presence in Mexico and having a strong platform to expand into Latin America, a region we can see benefiting from nearshoring owing to de-globalisation and a greater focus on improving sustainability through reducing distances products travel," RS added. For the year that ended on September 30, Risoul generated revenue of USD166 million and earnings before interest and tax of USD19 million. RS said the acquisition will be financed from its existing debt facilities, due to be completed by November 2022. Chief Executive Officer Lindsley Ruth said: "We are accelerating our organic growth with bolt-on acquisitions that meet our key strategic, financial and cultural criteria. Risoul enables RS to expand our position and execution expertise in the Americas, specifically in Mexico and the rest of Latin America, and drive cross-selling synergies across our product and service solutions offer." | philanderer

14/7/2022 10:41 | Threadneedle sticks with RS after tough time Columbia Threadneedle’s Richard Colwell is standing by RS Group (RS1) despite slowing economic growth weighing on the distributor of electronic components. RS Group, formerly known as Electrocomponents, is the second-largest holding in Colwell’s recently renamed CT UK Equity Alpha Income fund, where it makes up 6.9% of the £277m portfolio. In his latest fund update, he said the shares have ebbed and flowed of late. ‘The shares had a difficult start to May amid concerns about slowing economic growth and tighter monetary policy,’ said Colwell. ‘However, the firm reported favourable earnings in the second half of the month, with revenues and profits up relative to the previous year and net debt down significantly.’ In good news for shareholders, the group also increased its dividend and Colwell said the ‘highly competent management team is focused on cost-cutting’. Shares in RS Group fell 1.3% to 902p on Wednesday and remain more than 10% down since early May. citywire.com | philanderer
