08/11/2010 09:33 | Don Carter - the banks were totally wrong-footed by the collapse of property prices in the US and are deeply underwater. All the western banks were drawn into this by buying junk CDOs which are now worthless. This situation can only be rectified by recreating a bubble in property prices. Hence QE2 which is desperately trying to ignite inflation. Its about 50/50 whether it will work or whether it will totally destroy the world economy in my opinion. The stakes are high. Ethical life in the private sector? I haven't noticed much in the public sector either. | kibes
08/11/2010 09:32 | Anyone got any to sell? | levelhead
08/11/2010 09:29 | An absolute disgrace. I am shocked given the recent Insurance contract wins etc. Another $hit investment! | senator
08/11/2010 09:24 | As Kibes says the banks are really insolvent but the QE free money is propping them up to repair their balance sheets, property mkt propped up to keep the party on the road. | robbie paul
08/11/2010 09:19 | kibes and stoxx - agreed, this comes as a shock - after the"major" contracts in the Highlands and with Tesco, the director buying etc. This one only adds to my sense of the incompetence and absence of any ethical life in the private sector. Also, WTF are the banks playing at? | don carter
08/11/2010 09:17 | envirovision - the problem is companies do not tell the truth when in trouble. In reality this can happen to any company at any time. Even apparently well run companies can suddenly go under. You just have to take the knocks and diversify. I have taken a hit on this but survive. Its just par for the course really. If you don't run the risk you don't make any money. If you think this is bad the current situation is all the major western banks are in reality bankrupt but lie about the extent of their bad loans and so have not written them down anything like enough. This is why they aren't lending anything. That problem is going to come home to roost sooner or later. Its why the US is doing QE2 which will probably eventually cause total collapse someway down the road. The trick is getting your money in and out of stocks before that happens. | kibes
08/11/2010 09:15 | Someone I know is looking to buy 100k shares, but cheap..private purchase presumably. This is genuine. | levelhead

08/11/2010 09:02 | Wonder how many unpaid invoices which were not on the records will be found stuffed in the bottom drawers this time. I hate to say it and i am trying so hard not to say, however here goes: I TOLD YOU ALL LONG AGO !!!! | envirovision
08/11/2010 08:58 | always makes me wonder... when the sh5t hits the fan with companies like ROK and TRB no one seems to be left holding stock by they were all thinking about getting in or were close to buying.. bad news for all the stock holders, hope you can find a way to recoup your funds elsewhere... look for maybe long positions in the smaller companies arena kibes rather than short positions... may stand you better considering the advent of QE2 | stoxx67
08/11/2010 08:54 | Connaught and now ROK? These people all lie through their teeth about the real situation. Looks like these sort of service companies are all going down the tube. Anybody think Morgan Sindall or Serco will be the next to follow? I need a short on something to get my money back. | kibes
08/11/2010 08:47 | kristini......... if you are short and it gets suspended you are in for a long wait to close. | exile
08/11/2010 08:45 | O/T any thoughts on Tribal Group, could be a good short as TRB depends upon govnt contracts. CEO left today, | kristini2

08/11/2010 08:28 | tbh, and it may seem cruel, but I'm glad they purchased recently and have suffered with the rest of us. Guess they really just didn't have a clue - ironic that these boards seek high levels of remuneration and are so out of touch isn't it ? | joe say
08/11/2010 08:27 | They knew and tried to put a gloss on things buying shares... played for time but the banks wern't having it...the full picture will be revealed to the public domain shortly. | exile
