Crude has been looking for an excuse to go higher for some time. Demand in the US has stabilised somewhat and the crude inventory glut at a major import terminus has eased marginally. Add the recent OPEC cuts into the mix and you have a market where the fundamentals are starting to encourage the bulls. However every attempt to rally recently has been throttled by poor economic data and slumping stock markets.

The excuse? China looks set to announce another stimulus package tomorrow. Of course the likely impact on demand is probably marginal. China is facing a catastrophic economic meltdown. No amount of infrastructure building will get Western buyers to spend more on Chinese manufactured tat. But the commodity bulls are desperate to get the "super cycle" going again. So there's plenty of opportunity here for a substantial bear market rally. How long or how high? No idea. Whatever happens next the worst is still to come.

Someone mentioned Rio a while back - not a bad day there.

AD, busman's holiday here, but what do you think of the oil price jump today?

AQP price today suggests take-out at 59p. The price has changed only by 10% since the provisional announcement whicn is nothing in the current market I expect this to go through and have 1 AQP share for every one of my 2.75 RDG. BB sentiment won't change the deal, uncovering nasties during due diligence will IMHO

Metal Man,

I wouldn't worry about maestro too much; he tends not to use actual money when he invests.

Maestro is just clueless, whereas you're becoming just generally smug and unpleasant.

Unfortunately septemberclues arithmetic is as unreliable as his bid rumours.
Deal is worth 64p at present not 75p. APQ would need to be at 206p to get 75p.

That's a long way off just yet. It is up to individuals to make the best of the daily fluctuations until then.

How to act on a rumour fdrom a trusted source: don't tell complete strangers about it, but perform a risk analysis, act on it and make a load of money on the quiet and thank your source. Or, post it on the AQP and RDG BBs. NIce bit of light relief anyway
