A bull & bear case on RCDO.

Note: their IR department couldn't provide me answers to a few of my questions. They were pretty bad.

Hi 1968jon,

good to see some long term holders on here. I recently bought into these and declared as such on Twitter.

I have always like Ricardo as a British engineering company but never bought any because it always felt like management were ok to just collect their salaries and keep a low profile of the company.

With the new CEO I personally believe the direction will become more clearer and ambitious. I also believe that the automotive business may get sold off and I refer to the comment in their latest trading update:

"cover the Group's objectives and the future direction of our Automotive & Industrial business unit."

I look forward to the results

A perfect hammer up candle to finish the day. We should have a significant breakout next week. Good luck!

Archy,
Regarding Xaar, look at the 5 year chart.
ABRDN rebranded themselves with the name change which spooked me as in my opinion it was an expensive foible.
I sold out of SNR when the bid arrived. Better a bird in the hand and all that..

Ricardo’s expertise in sustainability consultancy has been recognised in the Financial Times’s fifth annual rating of the UK’s leading management consultants.

The global consultancy’s experience and knowledge in providing trusted advice to clients in sustainability has featured in the Financial Times’s rating every year since the awards began.

........ A recent example of Ricardo developing net-zero pathways includes working with Ferrexpo, one of the world’s largest exporters of iron ore pellets, to help the organisation decarbonise operations, as it seeks to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

XAAR worth a look.

SNR? They rejected a bid so the chart looks bad but it's because that distorted a gradual recovery

I too am in POLY - not my best pick ever it's turning out but at least the company seems sound.

FSJ was a real stinker, I sold at a big loss.

Had RPS from 70p, sold out at 121p, they seem stalled lately, but a sound company. May buy back in.

Made a little on HYVe early on, sold at 131p, they act rather like an 'airline stock', very covid sensitive hence languishing lately.

Sold ABRDN when they lost most of their vowels ;0) WTF!

Held MCRO but chickened out at a slight loss. Looking to get back in.

Hi Indiestu

When I say “recovery play” I’m really thinking of shares that are still trading well below their pre-covid price, as observed in February 2020. Many in my pf (left off the list) have subsequently recovered to a large degree and others (included in the list below) may still be down due to non-covid factors. But these are the ones I have that are still well below their Feb 2020 prices and IMO due a rebound:

Menzies MNZS
Hiscox HSX
Micro Focus MCRO
Unilever ULVR
TP Icap TCAP
Hyve Group HYVE
National Express NEX
Polymetal POLY
Aberdeen ABDN
Boohoo BOO
Fisher James FSJ
RPS Group RPS
Taylor Wimpey TW
ASOS
Stagecoach SGC
Costain COST

If just a few of these get back to pre-covid price in the next year or two I’ll be laughing.

If anyone has any they’d recommend I’m all ears :)

What other recovery plays do you own Archy?

I have an interest here, over 5000 shares.

Bought as a recovery play (my portfolio is littered with them), still scratching my head a little bit as to why it’s still so far below the pre-covid price of 780p.

The sideways movement doesn’t concern really, I’m up 15% on initial purchase and from here it’s another 66% upside to get back to the 780p. No hurry, just continued patience required. GLA

That's a question I asked myself when I looked up how many I had ;0)

I normally buy a round number of shares so 500 would have been a more rational target.

I can only imagine I had only a certain amount of cash left in my account at that time for a trade and 490 shares maxed me out.

That's an odd number. Why 490? Wouldn't you buy 500 or 1000?

I've got 490.

I nibbled at this last year as I wasn't sure about it. I would have added more to get to about 1000 shares if they'd perked up a bit but they never really did.

Here's hoping for a breakout...

Good to know other people have an interest.

I hold 1000 shares and do not intend to add more or sell, anytime soon.

My usual - long term hold - target year 2030

I've got some Ricardo as a recovery play but it's been a pretty lifeless share over the last year.

What's keeping it down?

I think I'll sell if it makes 500p and see if I can get back in cheaper at some point.

Ok. We'll keep up the good work. There should be more company soon as Ricardo is about to burst through a 52 week high. Good luck.

Indiestu - i didn't know i had posted anything. Just started a new thread as there is only me that seems to post on Ricardo. I wasn't happy with the other out-of-date thread. I don't intend to write much. Ricardo sign contracts but don't issue an RNS and so i will post here for general INFO.
