Another site next to a cinema. I like the 2017 cinema box office figures so far this year.

The year of the price hike: Half of British firms expect to charge more as weak pound hits - and restaurant meals could soar in 2017

I think a high proportion of frankie & bennys and Chiquito sites are situated next to cinemas in leisure sites and sales are impacted by new film released. In Q4 2016 uk cinema admissions were down by 13% (6.5m) and for the full year 2016 cinema admissions were down by 2.1% having been up by 9.2% in the previous year.

Brokers have been revising their expectations down ever since thev RTN trading statement on the 25th january.

Telegraph market report:

"....Elsewhere, there was little appetite for Frankie & Benny’s owner the Restaurant Group. The mid-cap stock fell 10.9p to 291.5p after UBS slashed its target price from 360p to 310p citing a challenging cost backdrop, which is likely to result in “significant margin deterioration” this year."

Bet they wish they waited a few days!

Never mind not long now till some real figures and I'm sure they've under promised and will over deliver.

I don't frequent any F&B's but I do regularly frequent the B&P pubs and whenever I do they are always busy.
Two more large B&P's opening shortly with several opened last year.
As I've said before they are the future for the company and are becoming a much bigger slice of the cake!

Deutsche reiterating their 'sell'this morning and cutting their target from 290p to 265p.

Questor will be pleased with their 'buy' at 360p and the Mail's Midas tipster as their New Year tip.

I did hold RTN 12 months back. My family would eat once a week when in town.

Then prices went up some items were removed from menu and portion sizes seemed to shrink.

At this price level and with new management it could be a buy.

Cinema admissions for Q4 2016 were down by 13.2% vs Q4 2015 which could explain the last trading update because I think quite a high proportion of the F&B sites are at cinema locations. Does anyone actually know the approx % of sites located next to cinemas? Looking at the box office figures for 2017 ( hxxp://www.bfi.org.uk/education-research/film-industry-statistics-research/weekend-box-office-figures ) I think they are ahead of last year and I like the look of the film slate for 2017 vs 2016.

(QUESTOR - Telegraph - originally tipped 'buy' last october @ 350p)

Update: Restaurant Group

It must be admitted that last week’s trading update from Restaurant Group was less palatable than we expected when we tipped the stock in October .

But we retain our faith that the company can be turned around, although weak fourth-quarter like-for-like sales now mean that the chief executive, Andy McCue, believes the Chiquitos and Coast to Coast brands need the same sort of work as Frankie & Benny’s, namely revitalised menus, site opening plans and cost control.

Mr McCue now expects trading to remain tough in the first half of 2017 and mix of cost pressures and price cuts is not an appealing one, especially as eating out trends are so fickle.

But we can afford to wait and see as the balance sheet has little debt, the company generates plenty of cash and a forward p/e ratio of barely 11 prices in bad news for a share that has traded on a multiple more than twice as high.
