11/8/2008 12:00 | Planning approval granted for Goonhilly Downs (Renewable Energy Gen) RNS Number : 0730B Renewable Energy Generation Ltd 11 August 2008 Press Release 11 August 2008 Renewable Energy Generation Limited ("REG" or the "Group") Planning approval granted for repowering of Goonhilly Downs Wind Farm in Cornwall Renewable Energy Generation Limited (AIM: RWE), the international renewable energy group, today announces that it has received planning approval for the repowering of its Goonhilly Downs wind farm on the Lizard Peninsular in Cornwall. The planning approval allows for an increase in the wind farm's current capacity from 5.6MW to approximately 15MW. By replacing all of the existing turbines with more modern equipment, the project will harness the proven wind resource more effectively and will provide enough energy to supply over 7,000 homes. The repowering of the project was originally considered by the Local Planning Authority in May 2008 and gained significant majority support from the committee members, having been recommended for approval by the planning officer. However, as Goonhilly is an area of outstanding natural beauty, it was referred to the Government Office South West which has now confirmed that it does not consider any action is warranted by the Secretary of State. Subject to the anticipated full discharge of planning conditions, turbine orders will be placed and electricity production is hoped to begin in REG's next financial year. Commenting on developments, Andrew Whalley, Chief Executive Officer of REG, said: "We are absolutely delighted to have received approval for the repowering of Goonhilly. The capacity increase will not only contribute significantly to Cornwall's overall renewables targets, but further endorses our credentials as a developer of even the most challenging UK wind projects. "Goonhilly, together with our project at Loscar in South Yorkshire, which received planning permission last month, will significantly increase our UK operating wind plant to around 35 megawatts." 08/8/2008 11:45 | It's today's trade list that's showing the trade - so either Lehman Bros held their stake for just two weeks, or someone else is building a stake almost exactly the same size, or the Lehman trade has only just been reported in the list of trades, two weeks after the actual transaction, and 3 days after the RNS. The last of these seems most likely - if it's possible. | ![]() lpf

23/7/2008 17:12 | Sorry, should have been more specific, it was this bit: "actively exploring ways to capitalise on its Canadian investment and expertise" ---thanks for your views on that Praipus, you could be right. I guess why I found it slightly intriguing is that as far as I recall when RWE have referred to possible "partners" "jvs" in the past they've tended to use those kind of concrete terms, rather than opaque stuff like the sentence in the trading statement. (Could be wrong, that's just my impression from memory of reading the company reports, I haven't gone back and checked.) | gac100
23/7/2008 16:42 | "onerous environmental" Could be refering to carbon, sulpher and nitrogen offsets that fossil fuel power generators will have to purchase or clean up costs for Nuclear. "high fossil fuel prices" Possibly increasing cost of generation and therefore the cost of electricity. Improving wind farm developers/owners/op "actively exploring ways to capitalise" Perhaps considering options from JV, merger to takeover with a much larger player (with deep pockets) similar to Airtricity when they were taken over by SSE Scottish & Southern Energy. Win win deal Airtricy then able to build and finance windfarm development more easily SSE able to forcast company growth and increase share holder value going forward. IMHO | ![]() praipus

23/7/2008 14:46 | Well, a solid pre-close trading statement. Canadian notional pipeline up to 5500MW is nice. Ditto the increased potential from the new Ontario RFP. Intrigued by this: "The renewables market is developing quickly as a result of more onerous environmental requirements allied to high fossil fuels prices. Given this, REG is actively exploring ways to capitalise on its Canadian investment and expertise." ---English translation anyone? | gac100
22/7/2008 16:54 | Hi Praipus Thought RWE looked interesting when it floated, but wasn't really sure about the central Europe windfarms and the management structure of the co. Main reason I didn't invest then though, was that it was unproven - even though there was a great deal of relevant experience among the directors/managers. Having looked at it again three years on, it now looks a lot more attractive. Out of Poland, bought its management company, the UK pipeline is good, the Canadian fantastic. And they've built up a track record of getting things done quickly, on time and on budget. Cash about to start flowing from the first Canadian windfarms now too. A virtuous cycle established for expansion. So, excellent progress in the 3 years and one can really see where the business is going now - and the share price only about 15% up on the float price. I also like the broad base of institutional shareholders and what I'm hoping will be a progressive dividend policy. | gac100

15/7/2008 10:37 | From the oil BB briarberry - 14 Jul'08 - 12:37 - 217 of 219 T. Boone Pickens is out to save America. America is in a hole and it's getting deeper every day. We import 70% of our oil at a cost of $700 billion a year - four times the annual cost of the Iraq war. I've been an oil man all my life, but this is one emergency we can't drill our way out of. But if we create a new renewable energy network, we can break our addiction to foreign oil. On January 20, 2009, a new President gets sworn in. If we're organized, we can convince Congress to make major changes towards cleaner, cheaper and domestic energy resources. | ![]() praipus |
