Update for hRPC therapy candidate study

ReNeuron Group plc (AIM: RENE), a UK-based global leader in the development of cell-based therapeutics, provides an update on the Company's Phase 2a clinical evaluations for the treatment of retinitis pigmentosa ('RP'), an inherited, degenerative eye disease.

Further to the update on 15 January 2021, the Company has activated sites in Spain and the UK, to expand the Phase 2a extension study outside the US, thus representing a total of four actively enrolling sites worldwide. The most recently enrolled subject was treated last week, undergoing a successful surgical procedure to implant the hRPC drug product. Five days following treatment, the subject presented with a presumed bacterial intraocular infection in the treated eye which impacted their vision, and was treated initially with an appropriate regimen of antibiotics, to which they responded with clinical improvement. Systemic anti-inflammatory therapy was subsequently added, and the subject continues to improve on this regimen.

The origin of the presumed infection is not yet clear. As a precaution, dosing of further subjects in the study has been temporarily suspended while an investigation into the cause of the event continues. This is likely to lead to a delay to the study, and the Company now expects three-month data from the extension segment of the Phase 2a study to be available in Q4, rather than Q3, of this year.

The Company will provide a further update in due course.
